Wont signal the pcm into going into limp mode.....? 100%...?

Before my long tubes and tune, I removed my cats and got O2 sims. Night and day difference in sound - I never regretted it. Sounded 100%better in my opinion. But, if I was not able to get the O2 sims or a tune, I would not have done it. I don't think they sell the O2 sims anymore, but you may try posting on the 'parts for sale' section that you are looking for a pair. Most inexpensive route to go and the sound will be much better.

It won't mess anything up at all. Hell I had LT's and Corsa ORX w/pace car cb and the car never through the ses light. I did not have 02 sims either. I ran it like this for a year and never saw the light come on once. If you want a cheap way to increase the sound, go for it.

"i have a regular c5 with just a zo6 ti catback i wanna make my car louder for super cheap" --The first issue you bring up is making your car louder. You received answers you didn't like.

"that means hollowing cats or removing them" --not necessarily, and not the best way to get louder for super cheap.

"my question is would i lose any power if i remove both cats i know its been proven that some gain 5hp by removing the pre-cat but what about both????"--really a second issue...cats. You want to remove them because you think you may gain 5 hp by taking them all out. Apparently you want clarification on removing the cats.

Ok, kid, don't get irritated when people try and give you suggestions. Even when they joke with you. Also, do a search about a question before you post it. Odds are it will save you some time and may answer your question. Also, state your goals clearer and you will be happier with your results.

Things to consider:
O2 sensor sims were $90 per piece (you need two) when they were sold.

A tune will cost you between $250 and $600, and is not worth it just to turn off the 02 sensors. If a tuner will do it for cheaper fantastic, call and ask.

Whoever posted that it won't throw codes is the exception to what is common. The car is supposed to throw codes if there is something wrong with the pollution control system.

Removing the cats is not a good way to try and increase your power. You won't even feel it. It takes about 20 or so horsepower to get any SOTP (seat of the pants) feeling. You can dyno it to determine exactly how much your gain is. But you will pay for before and after dynos. Usually dyno runs can be bought cheaper at car meets when someone brings a dyno. Not worth the expense.

Removing the cats will make your car smell like fuel. Without a tune to change your mixture it will smell stronger than with the tune. Either way it will smell like an older car. (just to be aware of it). Once you gut those cats I don't think you can repack them. You can buy a new mid pipe section used for pretty cheap. GM will charge you between $1000-2000. I can't remember the price exactly.

If you are trying to make some horsepower, there are a ton of cheap ways that you can get more power, including do-it-yourself applications. Plan your mods out so that you are not redundant with your efforts. And remember, if you resell, don't expect any money for your mods, and you may have to compensate the purchaser to put the car back to a normal drivable condition.

In my opinion gutting your cats is a waste of time and effort for your stated goals (horsepower increase and louder exhaust) and there will be side effects that will cost money to correct or reverse and you may not like the outcome.

Default what kind of cologne are you wearing she asked? Burnt motor oil?

The only real downside to gutting your cats would be the smell of gas...

You take a shower, ready to head out on your hot date.. and when you get there to pick her up you smell like you spilled a bottle of diesel/motor oil mix in your trunk area...

I used to have headers, no cats..... and it stunk, then I added a choppy cam and it really stunk.

Did it make a difference outside or inside? When I put my high flow cats on I noticed the car got louder, INSIDE the car. I like a good sounding car but I want to be able to hear in the cabin. The cats are right under you and will affect the driver/passenger compartment level. Now I play the radio louder and it's a little difficult to talk since the headers/high flow install.

Both. With no cats, I assume it will be louder than with your high flow cats. But, the noise does not bother me. I now have Dynatech long tubes, offroad x-pipe, and GHL magnums - it's like NASCAR at 3500 rpms. I love it. As long as I am cruising at a little below or above 1500 rpms, the sound is mild.

My car is not that bad - just smells faintly at idle. I asked the wife if I smelled like gas after a long cruise and she said no.
Kinda smells like a '69 Camaro I used to have.

Lol this is funny. You gut cats on an old pickup or some other POS... not a corvette. If anything... without deleting the rear O2's or a tune to go along with it you'll create problems and probably lose some performance. None of it will be noticeable in either direction. But if you have to ask this question then you'll probably just want to go ahead and do it. And since it seems like you don't like advice, do whatever you want to do.

Getting rid of cats is not a smart way to improve performance.

im not gonna disagree with you as when i do think of gutting cats i think old truck or rice burner but i was already under my car changing my oil pan so i said what the heck. however i never asked for advice on how to make my car louder i clearly stated that all i needed to know was if it would affect my performance if i removed all four cats. In my head i had already made the decision to remove the pre-cats i was just speculating on removing the big ones.

I wouldn't gut them. I would cut them off. You can get $100 each. Take the money and buy a X -pipe. I have LT's, no cats, X-pipes with Ti. The smell isn't bad at all. Good luck!

My bad dude. I thought there were two issues there. I guess your punctuation confused me.

I don't have EFI live yet , but this all intrigues me. you put long tubes on the car and it goes rich, codes 420/430come on. The easy way is to turn off the rear O2's, but the car is still running rich/ hurting performance ? Since it seems like every action we do on these car defalts to rich, I would think removing the cats would do the same. You seem to have a great knowledge at tuning the ls series, I and i'm sure others would love the education.

re-read your own post.

I think your attitude towards people offering you solutions for your multi-issue topic is what reciprocated some of the negative responses. Your attitude makes you sound confrontational, immature, and a pain in the a$$. There are times when you should develop an attitude, but this wasn't one of them. Deal with it. You have multiple reasons to do the mod and to not do the mod. Make up your own mind and go with it...and calm down.
