Default rear hub or suspension problem?

Jacked up rear of car so I could lubricate the axle spline. Noticed when I moved the wheel side to side it has about 1/2" of play on passanger side, checked driver side and no play. Any thoughts on why?

The wheel is turning in and out 1/2" as in it is turning like the front wheels would steer???

If that is the case, you have something very wrong and need to fix it before driving it any more. If the problem fails completely the wheel will could turn sharply and you would very easily wreck the car. Or, the wheel could try and fall off also causing a crash.

I would look at the tie rod as the likely culprit. It's either one of the joint ends or it is loose on the subframe. It's possible you also have a wheel bearing that's gone bad. You should be able to see what component has the play in it pretty easily and that is the bad part.

Mine did the same. The toe rod ends were worn out. Do your self a favor and replace the front tie rod ends at the same time. You need to have a 4 wheel alignment done anyway after replacing them so might as well get them all done. My tie rod ends had far more wear than I assumed.

I would also check to make sure nothing is loose.
