Default frame machine adapters

i have a 98 coupe that i am needing to check the frame measurements on. in order to get the car to sit level, left to right, i have to max out the spring bolt on one side (rear), and the opposite on the other. upon an intense visual inspection of any and all suspension components, front and rear, and eventually the use of my trusty tape measure and a level, i have made absolutely zero progress. so, in order to make my next decision, i headed to the bar. although it did assist me in forgetting my immediate problems, i noticed when i awoke this morning that the car is still sitting **** eyed, even after my hangover wore off.

so, i headed to the frame machine...


alas, in order to tie the car down, i need "a little help from an adapter kit", they are 1200ish from Chief, and i found a couple "knock off" places that sell some second rate adapters for around 600. i just can not justify the cost. although, i do realize, that without them, i'm SOL. refusing to admit defeat, i now had to make a decision.

so, back the the bar... to think a bit. and a conclusion was made.

conclusion:

being the thrifty critter that i am, why not fab a set of these babies up? it seems very doable. and i do love a challenge.

i have managed to find a couple pics, with a decent description. check it out.

just thought i would drop a post here in da forum, see if anyone had any advice (good or bad), comments, off the wall outbursts or smart *** remarks. all will be appreciated and considered.

Well, just incase anyone is curious... we measured the car the last couple of days with a tram gauge, in an attempt to confirm our suspicion that there is a "problem". i appears, so far, that it is the cradle that is a majority of the culprit, but, that we may also have other issues.

We are kinda wondering if the car itself could twist the cradle enough to make it bent, until removed. hmmmm <<< me wondering.

So, tomorrow, we are going to make another attempt at a set of adapters for the frame machine. i'ma thinkin about using a 1/2" bolt, and squeezing a 2" piece of 1/2" pipe over the shank, then smashing it into an oval, the size of the oblong hole in the car. That way i can utilize the strength of the head of the bolt to hold everything in place.

I shall see what i shall see… tomorrow.

You can't use the body to determine how much to level the car. The body is not held to a tight tolerance on the frame. The measurements have to be made from the bottom of the frame to the ground.
