I have a CAI, I removed the screen in my MAF, smooth coupler, Bullits Exhaust, stock engine and tune with over 152K miles, and just recently pulled 305rwhp and 312tq. Not bad for a "Road Queen".
There nothing wrong with removing screnes from the MAF and or doing stuff to it "IF" your going to have the engine TUNED! If you screw with the MAF and dont tune the PCM/MAF Calibrations, your part throttle performance and fuel economey will suffer badly. Remember, you really dont use the MAF the 10% your at WOT. You use your MAF 90% of the time when you NOT at WOT.
What about cleaning? Purchased the MAF cleaner not sure how to use, remove the MAF and spray to clean, or spray into the MAF while engine if running?
Gary
Remove the entire air box assembly and seperate the air filter and air filter cover from the air filter assy. Once you do that you will see the MAF/Screen. Use the cleaner and spray it through the screen. Flush the dirt off the small wires behind the screen. It wont take too much. A couple of good sprays. Then let it evaporate. While you have it apart, clean the TB and Throttle Blade.

Which is about right for a stock motor....with or without the descreened MAF.
