Default Hammer cam and pully installed. It pulls!

I finally got the hammer cam and pully (MTI said it was thier last pully on the shelf) installed! My baseline dyno was very dissapointing at 329.5 hp. on a 54.5 degree F temp. day. Thats only 387 rwhp.

After the pully and cam install I gained 26.5 hp, pulling 352.0 at the wheels on a 71.9 degree F temp. That translates to 414.1 hp. using a 15% factor of parasytic driveline loss.

No computer tuning was done! I suspect another 5+ hp. can be had with the tunning. My torque only jumped from 337.4 to 341.1. The extra power starts to seperate at 4,500 rpm. growing all the way to 6,500 rpm. The car shakes at stoplights! It's also more audible at idle with a pronounced lope. Absolutely no drivability problems. The engine light came on but soon cleared with no problems.
I have absolutely NO OTHER MODS!

Why was your baseline dyno so dissapointing? What other mods did you have before the cam?

Dead eye

Was the 329 rwhp on a stock car? Also, I believe you meant 387 at the crank and not the wheels, right? Anyway, if you pulled 329 rwhp on a stock C5 your car is strong....VERY STRONG and you should be happy with that....I would! :D

If you put some LT headers on that car it will be a beast.........and with heads...look out :D Good numbers, you have a strong car :D
Oops. I meant crank hp. Sorry
Yeah, that baseline was on a completely bone stock '01 Z06. I've read alot of posts on this forum that the '01's are waay under rated and they dyno at 345 at the crank.

Don't you mean 345 at the rear wheels? Most '01 Z06 dyno numbers i've seen are usually around 330-340 rwhp. So 326 rwhp really isn't bad.

Can you post a dynograph? I am interested in where the torque & hp compares to a stock dyno. (what the differences are at idle to 1500rpm, loss? gain? and where it finally gains an increase above the stock cam)
Anyone else posted a comparision?

Coming from owning muscle cars, I have to say the only negative thing about my corvette, is the motorboat - putputput sound. I hate it.

I really don't care what anybody's dyno says - 95% of stock '01 Z06's will dyno at about 325-330 rwhp bone stock......your dyno is VERY NORMAL and is just right.......no need to be dissapointed....

I don't have the capability to post a pic of the graph but I'll do my best to describe it.

The numbers on the graph start at 2,500 rpm, at which the hp #'s are the same. The torque appears to be about 5 lower than stock. At 2,650 the hammer cam dominates slightly (about 5 lb.ft.) until they meet again at 4,300. At 4,400 the hammer really wakes up as it gradually separates to a 10 lb.ft. difference as the stock cam starts to drop off at 4,700 while the hammer stays steady to 5,000 rpm. Then the stock cam starts to drop more drasticly, eventually seperating to a 20 lb.ft. difference from 5,700 to 6,500. At 6,600 rpm. the hammer takes a sharp (the only) peake upwards to make the finall difference of 30 lb.ft. The graph ends at 250 lb.ft. stock tq. while the hammer ends at 280 lb. at 6,600 rpm.

As for hp, the hammer pulls away about 5 hp. from 3,000 to 4,000 rpm where they meet. Then at 4,500 rpm, the hammer steadily pulls away while growing to a 26.5 hp seperation at 5,900. This diffrence is held to 6,600 rpm. :smash:
Hope this helps. :)

You really need to open up the car's breathing to take advantage of the cam. Add a ram air intake and some long tube headers. No doubt you'll dyno at 380+ RWHP. Congrats on the new power, I love the sound of a cammed C5.

Thanks, DEAD EYE. Your explanation is just as good as a graph (for me anyways). I was wondering where the torque would be lower with this bigger cam. Some cams I have tried In the past, (in my other vehicles) have shown a loss until 3000 rpm's, and then felt like all the low-end grunt was taken out.
This helps me to decide how big a cam to install this summer. I don't want to lose any more ponies down low then I have to.
I want an agressive sound; not the put - put - put I hear everytime I start up my C5.
I also want it to work with the ATI P-1SC1Procharger that just arrived today!:D (Just looked in the box and the programmer is backordered...):cuss I'll just have to wait on the install.
From What I read in the ATI manual, changing the cam shouldn't void the warranty.

Man, I can't believe how powermad I have gotten in the short time I have owned my coupe. I blame it on this forum.
It must be a disease.

Thanks for all the replies guys. :)
As for drivability, I can't tell the difference between the cams under normal (2,000 rpm. and under) driving. The car shut down last night just after starting it but I kina like that. Keep in mind I didn't get the computer tuned yet. The overdrive gears have a more usefull oomph to them. It idles at 980 rpm with a rythmic shake to it. ROOM ROOM ROOM ROOM RAP RAP RAP ROOM ROOM ROOM ROOM. :D
While driving at extremely low rpm (1000) the car sometimes slightly jolts forward along with the song described above as if it's begging me to go WOT. At WOT it seems as if the power keeps pulling harder and longer, third gear rocks! :smash:

Get LT headers from LG Motorsports, intake (whichever you like), and Corsa Indy's. I guarantee you'll love the car even more. :yesnod: And don't forget a MAFT and diagnostic software to see how everything is running. :D
