I came out to the garage and heard the fans running. The engine was cold. I had replaced the battery earlier in the day and washed the car and engine compartment. I pulled the fan 1 relay and the fans stopped. I switched like relays, but the fans started again. I drove the car to heat things up and dry it out, but the fans still run after shutdown. The check engine light is on! I disconnected the battery. Help!
Start by pulling the codes. FYI, the fan relays get their commands to turn on from the PCM. HVAC running will turn them on as it should. Are there any other strange indications out of the normal like coolant temp?

Good call. If the PCM thinks the ECT is 282 degrees +, it will run both fans in low speed mode after the ignition is turned off. You can disconnect the ECT connector to see if the fans shut down.
Thanks for your replys.
This morning I reconnected the battery and all has returned to normal. My guess is that water got into something, and caused the relays to ground and turn the fans on. The warm engine compartment must have dried out whatever it was, and the problem simply evaporated away!
