I was quoted $600 from the dealership for a replacement for my 02 C5. That was crazy so I ordered a remanufactured Bosch for about half that. Some on this forum warned of possible DIC error codes since the 110 amp original alternator is what the system expects. Aside from a straght pulley (as opposed to the stock clutch pulley) on the replacement, it seems to work well. Evil-Twin is supposed to know everything so I'm gonna PM him to see if I absolutely need the clutch before I return my old core. The local alternator/starter rebuild guy says these clutch pulley's are famous for failure. What exactly are they for? Sorry. didn't mean to hijack, I just wanted to share my alt experience.

Would a C6 alternator fit the C5? Its a 145 amp unit and they look about the same.

You know you are adding this to an 8 year old Thread. Not sure if all C6 ones are the same, not at home.

What year is your C5? If it is a 110 amp one even if it will work you will get charging system fault messages. To fix that you would have to reprogram the PCM.

So I should make a new thread? Thanks for the heads up. I just had a spare alternator sitting here from a fire victim and didn't know if it could interchange between generations. It looked like it'd physically fit. Sorry.

Ps- I was going to turn the fire victim in as a core (it actually still tested good but looks bad), get a new alternator for my car, and sell the good 76k mile OEM one. That was my thought process

Don't believe the BS you've read about the alternator interface. The only alternator to PCM interface is a PWM signal. The PCM has no clue if the PWM signal being 100% represents 110A or 140A. Even the regulator inside the alternator has no clue if the alternator is producing 110A or 140A when it's at 100% field output.
