Default hp question

How much horsepower should I expect to gain with a Vararam, Magnaflow straight pipes with an x-pipe, and a tune in my 02 Z06?

Add some long tube headers and it will make a real nice difference.

The tuner here in town said he could get me 20rwhp with just a tune. I would assure the getting the vararam tuned with that would add to that as well. 15-20 seems a little low?

30 - 40 HP??? According to Vette magazine dynos it could be more???

Somtimes the HP does not "accumulate" like you think it would but other times parts can "complement" each other.

Here is a straight through system that yeilded 16 hp. http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/0501vet...ust/index.html

Here is a Magnaflow catback with x pipe with almost 16 hp. http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/0307vet...nfo/index.html

And vararam at around 12 hp.
http://www.vetteweb.com/tech/0304vet...all/index.html

You make your decision on the HP.

I did the Corsa pacecar with x pipe, vararam with the predator tune and I noticed a great improvement. How much - I don’t know its never been dynoed - but enough that I am happy with it. I thats all that really matters.

I've been waiting for someone to bring up these articles after hearing some of the HP gains in other threads. In other words don't expect alot.

Are you saying ALL of the mods he listed would be 10 - 15 hp? I don’t believe that. I did each of my mods one at a time and each time I could tell a difference after each mod (esp. the vararam) and I really don’t think I could "feel" just a 2 - 3 hp increase. It would have to be like 8 - 10 hp to be able to tell by SOTP IMO. I would conservatively say 24 - 28 hp total depending on his current state of tune.

GM Tech mag. tested Predator this year (along with 7 other handheld tuners) and it was good for 15 hp alone! (Which was the best of the tests overall). Corsa tests shows 5 - 7 hp and vararam 12 hp = 32+ hp. So lets round it down to 27 hp to be safe. At speeds vararam has proven to give results showing more HP proven by the 1/4 mile tests.

But of coarse this subject has be argued many times over so the best this to do is do your OWN research and come to your own conclusions (and keep the results to yourself! ha ha).

Guitar - Just do the mods you listed - IMO you will be pleased with the results.

My 04 gained 21hp with the tune, and I'm sure the vararam
adds at least 10hp @ 35mph and above.

I gain about 20rwhp w/cold air intake and a tune. I wouldn't expect any more than that.

And for future reference, add a set of LT's to bring that 10/15 HP up in the 50 HP range......Now we're talking HP that will make the buttometer needle really swing
