Default Drinking Oil

Does anyone else have a problem with your vette "drinking" oil? Mine kind of does it in spurts. It will be fine for a few months then for a week it will need like a quart of oil.

Just the other day i drove the car to work after not driving it for quite a few weeks. Well when i was driving to work the the computer said "low oil level" so i reset it cause it does that every once in a while. And it came on again and again. Probably about 3 times in a 40 min trip. So I pop the hood check the oil level and it's perfectly fine. Is there like an oil level sensor that could be hitting the end of it's life after 45k miles?

I've heard that this problem is either because of the valley cover or because of the piston rings. Lately i've been thinking of just buying a 383 short block and switching over to that.

Hmmm...2001 LS6. I believe there is an SB for oil consumption for this year.

Sounds like a bad sensor to me.

Sorry what does SB stand for? It's probably going to make me sound like an idiot.

Yeah but it is for high RPM, low load usage. Driving around in first gear at 45 mph with 1/8th throttle caused a condition called "ring flutter" that allowed oil to bypass the oil rings.

Do you park on an incline?

If so, thats the problem. Next time this happens, start the car and drive to a level area then shut the car off, count to 3 and restart, it should be fine, if not then replace the sensor.
