Default Diff question-please help!

I just got the infamous drivers side seal replaced on my differential by the local chevy dealer. The leak was just a small one and now since they fixed it I have gear oil all over my garage floor. I took it back to them and they were supposed to fix the leak but it is still leaking! Is this because they overfilled it or am I going to have to have them fix it again?

Any advice would be wonderful!

Default Good wrencher's are hard to find.

More then once, I've heard tell that they clean up the oil around seal area and apply silicone caulk. Of cource this is not acceptable. They must replace the leaky seal, with the newer (improved) out put shaft seal.GM part# 88996703. New & improved 3 lip seal. The rubber o ring is GM part # 89047953 If they are not GM#'s, then they are Getrag #'s. Hope this helps and good luck.

They replaced the seal with the new one and it's leaking way worse than it ever was before. I was hoping someone might know where else it could be leaking from.

Ok, how many replies do you want? Could it be leaking from elsewhere...yes. How many different places could it be leaking from, many. Does it really matter how many different opinions you get? The bottom line is, you took your car in for a specific repair, and the problem was not repaired, or has become worse.

So I have to ask you, have you jacked up the rear of the car and investigated? Do you see any specific area related to the bottom, sides, etc? Who knows, maybe they forgot to tighten the drain plug. If you don't want to get underneath the car and investigate, then just take it back, and demand it be repaired.

Sounds like you are talking about two different repairs here. On the side covers, they do apply silicone, and there is an SB on this. I don't see how you could effect any type of repair with silicone on an output shaft seal.
