No, you don't need to buy a bunch of new parts. Easiest thing to do is lubricate the latch assembly and pivot points with WD-40. You can also adjust the two rubber cushions on the rear corners of your trunk lid. Screw them out 1/4 turn at a time, close lid and inspect for level fit with the fenders.

You can also buy or make a spring assembly (trunk-popper) to further assist the release.

very easy to fix yourself, but a more permanent alternative is the trunk popper kit, as suggested above.

I put this on mine, and will never have to worry about this issue ever again. Cost all of $15 and even comes with the right Torx screwdriver to do the job. This screwdriver happens to work in many places on the C5, as I've found out...

WD-40 is a penetrating oil that CLEANS and PREVENTS RUST but is not a good lubricant...

White lithium grease would be the proper lubricant that is water proof! give it a shot and you'll see...

I had the same problem with my trunk. I fixed it for about $5 in parts using Forum member DeeGee's instructional post in the attached thread. Post # 16.

The pack came with 2 big springs in it so I made an extra.
