It would have been great on a project like this, to see a couple of dyno pulls with the stock intake, 78, and ported 78. Since pulls are so expensive, most just dyno after several mods, so it's hard to tell what changed the #s.
Tony Mamo has done extensive testing of the 78 and the 90 and a properly ported 78 only gives up 5rwhp up top compared to a properly ported 90 setup.

I have not done any mods since my last dyno session at Vengeance so I might head back down there to make a few pulls after the intake is on. We'll see.

Seems some of what I posted below applies to your question....especially the quick chart of power gains versus cost.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Consider this in your search for "value" (I look at everything on a HP per dollar basis).

If you already have a good epoxied and ported 78 mm TB (like a Mark Shaner piece or something similar) score a FAST 78 unit cheap and just consider having it ported. Even at the prices I charge to do a very neat and thorough job your return on investment is still better than buying a larger 85 mm TB and cutting up the snout which might close the gap in half between an unported 78mm and the 90mm FAST (netting you 2-3 more HP than a 78 FAST). For an extra few hundred you would see an additional gain of 10 RWHP and a similar bump in TQ (my ported FAST 78 set-up went 20 RWHP and 15 RWTQ stronger than my former LS6/78 set-up as I previously mentioned).

For grins I just whipped up this spreadsheet....prices and performance may vary slightly but I think the general point I am making would still be intact.

Manifold.............Avg Retail $$...........Typical Gain.........Cost/HP

Stk FAST 78.............700...................... ..8....... ............. $87
Stk FAST 90 (w/ TB)..1200......................13....... .......... ...$92
FAST 78 w/ 85 mm.....900.......................11..... .......... .....$82
Ported FAST 78.........1200......................18. .......... .........$67
Ported FAST 90/90.....1700......................23..... .......... .....$74

The key is to understand that the snout doesn't represent the largest restriction in the FAST hence the smaller gains when messing with it. Reshaping and reconfiguring the ports are where the larger gains in airflow and power can be unlocked....

Tony

I did my 90 just like you did yours... I sent it over to vengeance for a street tune to get the LS2 more operable.. Well you know how that goes lol.. But I definally picked up gains on the butt dyno. No numbers yet, to all the skeptics I swapped from a LS6 manifold any camed stock head car or head and cam car benifits because the demand for air is much needed. Obviously the weak stock cam doesnt really need a whole lot of demand.

Do you ever come out here in atlanta for anything.. Id love to check out the car and hear those ti's. A friend of mine has a 01z just like yours but hes all stuck up on those corsas.

When I come to Atlanta I usually have the family with me. My modded Ti's sound pretty dang good, but they are pretty tame after I put the highflow cats back on it. Sort of a sleeper sound, but they come alive at WOT.

Here's how the intake lined up to the heads with no port matching.

Finished last night and bolted it on. I'm running the car at the track Saturday.

It was pretty close, I used a pick to scribe the bottom of the intake and matched it the best I could.

I usually take a micrometer and get a top and bottom measurement, then sketch that measurement over to the intake and port to that. I guess it all works the same, just thought I would put that out there.

The intake is looking great! I cant wait to see the results!

that would probably work, but with the lower torqued to spec ever runner didn't require the same amount of material removal, if I'd done them all the same, the entrance of the head would have stuck out some.

I use the micrometer on every port, with mine it was a ls1 so I didnt have as many options. My heads are ported as well so I knew I would have to mic. every hole. I would assume when you torque it down if its done in the right fashion the intake would go straight down, as long as both holes are the same they should line right up.

You got a catch can on there yet? Just asking since you can see oil in the runners of the heads.

Did you do anything with all of the plastic thats all over the gasket...looks like a crappy job from FAST in the mold process
Since I gotta remove my intake for the clutch install Im gonna pull mine apart and check a few things....if they require a little massaging then I will do it...and while Im at it Im going to do the LPE map sensor relocation kit

it's not a 1 piece gasket, it's more like strips of gasket and they all meet together in certain sections and you put a drop of rtv at those sections so it seals nicely
