A while back I ordered a Corsa Touring exhaust system and an X-pipe. I installed the Corsa system first and figured I would drive around without the X-pipe to see if I really needed it (to reduce the sound a bit).
It turned out that I loved the exhaust...and the sound wasn't bad at all. Therefore, I sold the X-pipe. Now I would really like to get even a little more "volume" out of my car. The extra horsepower and torque figures that Headers bring sure sounds nice, and I understand it adds some extra sound volume as well.
So, I'm considering long tube headers, and the X-pipe question has come up again. My question is, will the addition of long tube headers to my car put it over the edge as far as sound is concerned? i.e. do I need to reconsider that X-pipe again?
PS: I'm not sure if I have the Tourings or if I actually got the indy's. The invoice inside the box sent to me actually had someone else's name on it, and "corsa Indy" written on the invoice. I think I might actually be running Indys! I didn't notice this until they were installed (a year ago) Either way, I love it! I wish there was a way to tell for sure.
I ran Indys and TPIS for a while without the x-pipe and was very happy with the sound. It was not overly loud at all. A much more aggressive sound at WOT with the headers, but just as docile at cruising speed. I bought the x-pipe just because I felt like a change, and was curious what it would sound like. I'm happy with it, I think it gave me a couple HP, and gave the car a little more exotic scream at WOT which I like. Plus, since I'm getting Heads/Cam in a couple months, the x-pipe should keep the volume from going over-the-top.
When I installed the Tourings by themselves I thought they are too aggressive for a stock car. I installed the X-pipe for Extra power and it changed the pitch and took away the popping in the Exhaust note. Now I installed TPIS longtubes and I really like it. To hear a wav file of this system click on the link in my sig. This is what my car sounds like while driving by at 100 mph shifting from 3rd to 4th.  I really didnt know it sounded this good until I lent my Camera to someone to film me as I want by.
thanks for the info guys! For those of you who had the Corsa's on first, and then did the headers - what kind of change did you notice? The idle, was it deeper? is the RPM range throatier? How much louder at WOT did it get? thanks for all info guys - this really helps!
If you are considering headers, a $800 to $1500 investment and a terrific performance achiever, why would you not also go for the x-pipe also. It reduces backpressure to help your headers get rid of the exhaust, it can be as inexpensive as $200 and can produce I'm told up to 5 additional horsepower. I have done the x-pipe and Corsa Indy and am planning to do the headers additionally in the spring! Best of luck!
Just got the Corsa Tourings along with a C5-R 427. I'm really happy with the exhaust note. Sounds nearly stock until the revs hit 2500 or so, then it turns into a real beast. Best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy!
I have TPIS LT's, Bassani X-pipe, and Corsa Indy's. I agree with one of the earlier posts that the headers along with the X-pipe give the car an exotic sound (Ferrari like???). It really screams at WOT and has nice subdued rumble at idle. The headers and X-pipe took away that tugboat sound a lot of people complain about with the Indy's and no X-pipe. I wouldn't change a thing with my current set-up. I love it. Send me an email if you have more questions. :chevy
I did all these things at the same time(LT's, Xpipe, and Indy's) so I can't comment on the piecemeal factor....but I dream about how my car sounds at night!! I love it :yesnod: :smash: Invisible while cruising around, orgasmic at WOT.
I can't wait to see how the heads/cam job affect it...we'll find out soon enough;)
