Default transmission or clutch

Just got in a 2004 z06 with 29,000 miles
It is weird when you get in and start the car and put into 1st gear it grinds going into the gear.
Does not do it if you put it into 2nd gear first then slide it right up into first before you take off.
So basically you have to put into 2nd while still sitting at a standstill then put into 1st if you do not want it to grind.
Then once you take off it never grinds into any gear at any speed?
When you pull up to the stoplight and stop, try to put into 1st it grinds unless you put into 2nd then 1st, and take off?
Weird I checked the clutch cylinder and the fluid is brand new I mean brand new, could there be air in there causing it to do this? or is it the clutch? or worse the trans?
any recommendations?

Sounds like the trans more than anything. Does it change vs. temperature?

Check the fluid, and I would change it as well to see if that helps.

I know a lot of the C6's have similar issues that are temperature related, I know my 2006 is, but it has more of an issue with 2nd.

They do have an inertia lock out on first that is suppose to make it harder to go into first at speeds over 20 mph, but it should not grind.

no it does not change with temp it does it all the time, I never downshift into first to stop, just stop then try to put into first and it grinds, its just odd that if you put into second at a stop it goes right into first with no grind,

It is only 1st gear? It has no problems going into any other gear, either moving or stopped?

Stock shifter?

Sounds like a worn out 1-2 synchro, worn out 1st gear engagement teeth, or a combination of both.

By shifting into 2nd, you stop the shaft spinning in relation to the synchro, so that when you shift into first, the is nothing to grind.

When you shift directly into first, the shaft is spinning, and the synchro is supposed to do the job of lining things up and letting it engage. If it's worn out, rather that catching, it grinds.

Sounds like the first gear blocker ring is worn out, before you do any repairs check for spin down time going into first gear.
You should be able to put it into first gear without any grinding just by starting in netural with the clutch engaged then push in the clutch for at least 5 sec.
Then try to engage 1st gear if it still grinds start over and this time give it 10 sec.
If it still grinds you have a draging clutch and that is what caused the 1st gear syncro to fail, if not then somebody did a 4-1 down shift failing the blocker ring.
