Default questions about the predator

ive done a lot of reading, but cant pin point some specifics im looking for

i have a 1998 convertible, automatic transmission, 3.15 gears, nearing 60k miles

the car has a cat-back exhaust (i believe it is B&B) and a simple dual-cone intake

i always, and only, use 91 octane gasoline (either mobil, chevron, or shell)

1- exactly what will the predator allow me to do to wake up my car?
2- does it really have noticeable hp or performance gains?
3- does it really improve mpg, or does it stay the same, or does it get worse?
4- which predator model do i buy for my car?
5- from the stock tunes that come with the predator, which is best for my car?
6- when buying a used predator, what should i look out for?

thank you!!
David

will a pedator work on a 1998? I thought they only work on 99 and up. Could be wrong tho.

go to the above link (forum) and you can get your info...
I installed one on my 2000 and BIG difference-I took the torque mgt off, raised some shifting points and than played with injector trims.
I can no problem smoke my tires through the fist gear and it fish tails into second-yeah baby!
My milage did improve-I get 15.5 to 16 in heavy Houston traffic and 29-30 on the hwy-now,I don't drive less than 80 so it's not bad at all.........

I dont think they work on the 98 models.

But to help answer your questions (which might help someone else with the same questions):

I have an 01 coupe, z51 (3.15 gears) auto, corsa pace car cat back, and vararam. I am very happy with my results for the money spent (purchased on sale 3 years ago). Most of the performance comes from the tranny IMO (no TM). Performs better than before in all speeds but if I had a 6sp I might be disapointed.

1. Allows you to adjust many parameters uncluding timing, fuel, shift points and how firm, rev limit etc. Can also monitor (not record) real time on almost everyhing the computer sees. See scan/tune section on CF.

2. Not much HP (maybe 10 hp?) but it really works well with other mods so they work better together (IE my spark knock after vararam install). Works better with auto IMO. You can tell the difference when done.

3. Not much MPG gain if any at all in my case.

4. Purchased the latest editon (2.1 or later?). Mine was 1.8? and the 2.1 was already on the market. Seach the net for latest editon.

5. Only one tune comes with the Predator (it saves you stock tune so you can return to normal at a later date if needed) but you can tweak amost everything your self or down load new tunes from Predator.

6. Latest editon, if its unlocked (if used). Look in the for sale sections on the forum first, then post in Wanted section for a week or so. Then look for on sale with cf vendors.

Go to the scan/tune section for more details. This has been discussed many times in the past.

I am happy with my predator but I dont plan on doing any other mods and mine is a weekend driver only.

Good luck.
