I have reached 100,000 miles on my C-5 and I am doing a tune-up. I want to buy new spark plug wires, but I'm not sure if it would hurt or help me any by getting after market wires. I was looking at Granatelli wires with specifications that indicate a 400% increase in spark over AC Delco and 0 ohms of resistance with up to 15 rear wheel horsepower. Can someone give me guidance on this issue before I go and spend the money for these wires or stock wires?
I agree with Steve. It also sounds like you may not know how long it's been since the wires were removed. If that is the case, I would make sure I had the new wires in hand before removing the old ones, as a couple are likely to come apart during the process.
I too, have a 99 6mm coupe with 100,000 miles and still have the original plug wires. I too, questioned the need for a new set of plug wires. I don't know how yours starts / runs, but mine runs like the day I got it brand new off the truck. My feeling is that if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Please don't misunderstand my statements as I spend whatever is necessary to keep my toy in super shape at all costs. But if it runs as good as mine, why change wires if it is not necessary. Now your situation may be completely different than mine.
That's my 2 Cts.

I have a 1998 with 117,000 miles. I changed plugs at 85,000 miles. Wires were good, so I left them in.
Stock wires or the red performance ones are fine from what I have heard.

Thats the best one Ive herd all day. Listen to all the guys above
The best wires PERIOD are the GM performance red wires. or the LS-7 wires. Call Gene Culley www.gmpartshouse.com and he will give you the best price and service.
Wires will NOT increase performance. No how no way!!! When your buying wires, select QUALITY vise HYPE! What you read was 100% pure hype! The person that wrote that BS should be slapped!
More good info. The Big Guy is also correct. IF,,,,your stock wires are in good condition, and not leaking secondary ignition voltage, you dont need to change them. Changing them will be a waste of money.
If the rubber boots, wires, wire jackets and connecting hardware inside the boots are in good shape and corossion free, their good and will work fine. The wires should read 250-750 OHMs fron end to end. Most wires will ohm out at 300-350 ohms.
IMHO aftermarket wires that short are a waste of money. Run down to the auto parts store and get a set of Autolite wires. They cost around 32 bucks a set and the resistance was the same as a set of the GM wires actually looked identical.
