Guys, I have the need for more torque; and I haven't done a mod in a while. I really want to add about 20 more ft/lbs.
I'm kinda weird though, and just don't want to put headers on the car; for all the known reasons of heat, fit, noise, emissions legality, etc.
She's a 2000 MN6. I have a small torque cam, full Z06 exhaust and intake, BW filter with cold air, a pulley, and a tune. She does 355 RWTQ, with 330 at 3000, so not too bad. I really don't care about power past 5500 or so, she never goes there.
But, should I bother with, say, AFR heads, if i don't add headers?
what could I expect from a set of 205 AFR's, with no headers?
Maybe an Old Man cam, but would it be noticeably better for torque than the comp 212/218 I have now?
Maybe just get 3.90 gears. (I kinda like that one).
Gears are probably going to be the most noticable SOTP. It will make you feel like you added a bunch of torque. And gears dont affect the heat, noise, fit, emissions, legality issues that you are concerned with. Sounds like you want some neck snapping acceleration and 3.90's will certainly provide that, and alot easier than heads, or cam. I'd say gears for you all the way.

I am going to have to agree. Seat of the pants and mechanical advantage of the gears are going to be hard to beat with any engine bolt on modification and stick within your guidelines.
AFR 205's are an emissions legal bolt on so that could be another option, but I do not think that the gain would be more than the acceleration increase that the gears are going to make.
Let me know how I can help, there are a number of different options on building a diff unit.
Anthony, thanks. I drove by your place this morning - maybe that bad black Z parked out front started my juices flowing.
Yeah, just wanta have fun, so gears would probably be a good way to go. I'll stop by soon and we can discuss.

I did the 4.10 with a Z06 Ti exhaust, basic tune and Callaway cold air intake. The 4.10 by far made the biggest difference. Next spring I will put in AR Headers to get the most out of the intake and Ti's. That will be my last mod until I change my mind again which happens almost immediately after I complete a mod. So don't fool yourself you will be back for more...once you do something to improve the performance you will only want more.

You can also up your C.R. a point. This will raise your torque at all speeds.Get those heads milled and you pick up a nice gain in torque.I'm running 11.2 C.R. and have no problem on 93 octane fuel.
