Went to street legal drags @. Ca Motor Speedway Sat with new roll bar, harness, jacket, 150 jets, set for 11.???. Go to water cook the Nittos, stage, launch, instant sideways, out of the nitrous straighten out back in the nitrous, sideways again, A4 shifts to 2nd back in the nitrous 12.100 trap. Go to pits wait for second call (make note to self order ET's & wheels Mon AM). Second run same thing but lugs in 3rd 12.888 trap baaaad miss (fried plugs anyone?). Limp to nitrous shop 30 miles buy 8 Denzo can't cook plugs @ $12ea limp home 60 miles.Put car in garage to cool, wife makes soup & sand, watch Raider game, close eyes, open eyes, game over 5AM. Want to be back at track @ 6:30. Out to garage pull 4 easy?? side plugs 2 are fried, take other 4 plugs & tools head for track. Meet my friend with his 99 Coupe with new MMS stroker motor, he says no problem we can change the bad side in an hour. Hour later two plugs changed and car in many pieces friendly Viper owner wants to race. So we shut down the "garage" and head for staging. The announcer makes a big deal of how much stronger the Viper is and how he should have no proplem with the Vette everyone in the stands were in agreement the Viper easy!!! The Viper jumped my friend out of the hole by a half car length but then the Vette shot by him and pulled him by three lengths. Traps were Vette 11.1 Viper 11.6. Announcer called it the race of the day. Went back to pit buttoned up the car with six new plugs, sounded ok ran a 12.75 on the motor but the 150 shot and 11 will have to wait for another weekend.
Made me fell like i was sitting in the stands.....
Thanks alot, your making me jealous its to cold to race

next time!!! Congrats on a nice win!!! :chevy
Yes, boys and girls, the Viper guy was .... your's truly!
For sure a good time was had by all, though maybe a bit more so by my buddy BottleBob#1/WhiteBob (not to be confused with BottleBob#2 = RedBob). In a day filled with hundreds (literally  ) of 16-second Hondas, many of which broke down causing annoying delays for the rest of us ( :( ), you bet the race of the day was between two of America's finest! :flag
I have raced BottleBob#1 on many occasions, and let's just say it's been win-some-lose-some: when his motor was stock, we were very close if he was squeezing. With his heads and motor only, I had the edge. With his heads and the juice, I am at a distinct disadvantage. I was beaten by him a year ago when he pulled an 11.2, so I know what his car can do.... But whaddya think, should I have raced a Honda instead because I want to win??? Heck no. I want to please the crowd, even if I know I'm going down! :yesnod:
I asked BottleBob#1 before the race if his fuel delivery problems were sorted out, and when he said mostly, I knew I was in for a beating. All I can say in my defense is I knew I had to put my best effort into the race, and I cut a .5xx light to his .8xx, so in truth it was a bit closer at the finish line than the ETs would lead you to believe. But nonetheless....My stock-motored V10 went down to Bob's squeezed, heads-and-cam V8!
Venom : I did not intend my post to be diparageing to either yourself or Americas #2 sports car (chronologically of course :) ) but rather a lament of my own long weekend with the race between you and "White Bob" as the only redeaming factor. I did not include the history between you and "White Bob" lest my long post should become a short book. Indeed it was as you indicate one of the few "races" to determine who was faster(this time) rather than who was slower. I know you had to leave but FYI the track sent people out to try to get you and Bob to run again. Also on Bob's second run he cooked one of the so called uncookable plugs that we were installing in my car and he left me a voice mail today saying the cylinder now has lower compression :mad.
You weren't disparaging! And I hope I didn't come off as too defensive....Bob had a great run, and I knew what I was up against when I got into the race....But I did want to (1) take "credit" for being the Viper guy since some of the guys partcipating this thread know me, while (2) still salvaging what little bit remains of my reputation around here.... :jester
The NHRA guys really came looking for us to do a rematch? That would've been so cool! I was tempted to stick around, and I guess I should've. Especially since it sounds like WhiteBob's next run wasn't clean.... ;) J/K
Seriously, that is too bad about what happened on Bob's 2nd run. I hate to say it, but that's the sort of thing that scares me away from nitrous. Plus in the case of the Viper, the bottle and propane tank have to go right where the spare tire is under the hatch. That may not sound so bad until you realize that the spare is actually part of the rear-collision safety equipment on the car. So, now instead of having the spare that adds some rigidity back there, you replace it with tanks of highly flammable materials.... Hmmm.... :(
