2000 model car will not turnover sometimes. I will hold the key in the start posotion and press the clutch and you can here a relay clicking then after a minute or two the car will start. I bought a new key from gm and it has the same problems. Any ideas?
New battery, so possibly the starter solenoid?Probably a solenoid starting to die. How's the battery and connections to/from it and the starter?[/QUOTE]
The connections to it are litterally on it. Sometimes they come lose, so check that first, but remember that the battery connection down there is electrically hot!!!! Otherwise, I've heard that you can buy or fix the solenoid by itself, but its probably easier to replace the entire starter/solenoid as an assembly. I haven't done one as the '99 that I had, I gave away and it still had the original starter in it and that was with 310K miles.
Check battery connetions at battery and solenoid, if you have a voltmeter check for voltage on solenoid terminal that comes from ignition switch, this will eliminate a lot of guessing. I had same problem with my 97, and found dirty connection on battery cable at solenoid, I disconnected positive battery cable and managed to remove cable and wire brushed and applied high temp solder to cable/lug connection.
Thanks for all the responses. I should have time on Friday to look at all these items.

Bill Curlee has a thread with pix on rebuilding the electrical contacts of the ignition switch...If your a DIY type, it could save you a lot of $$
I already did that. I mean the part that you insert the key. Didn't end up being that anyway. They told me a new starter. Maybe I should replace the solenoid first?
I had the exact same symptoms. I did everything suggested above. I even troubleshot using a voltmeter. Its the solenoid. I replaced mine and its solved the issue 100%. Best $40 bucks I ever spent! The solenoid screws are very small and one of them is recessed in a small hole. You will need to find a deep well socket to get to it. I found one at the local Bumper to Bumper store. Another tool for the collection!
