Default H,C,&I questions

Hi,

so I just came upon a deal on some AFR 205's, FAST 90/90, 230/230 .591 .591 113 cam, Kooks headers and x pipe. And I had a few questions about the set up.

First does anyone have any experience with this cam? Any vids?
Second what is the chamber CC on these heads VS the stock LS6 heads? I am curious to what it will do to my compression ratio as I am also adding a procharger in the summer.

Much appreciated!

If you are going to a procharger soon I would stay away from these heads, you are going to have a 10.5+ CR which is kinda high for boost. Also you are going to want around a ~228/224 114 or higher LSA cam for a boosted app but other will recommend otherwise.

The heads and cam are not ideal for a blower. For heads I would keep the stock ones, or get some 6.0L truck heads. For a cam go with a 224/228 on 114, 224/230 on 114, 226/234 on 114, or a 232/240 on a 114. Keep the lift under .600

He could always run a thicker cometic head gasket to drop compression a little.

No way would you ever want a 228/224 reverse split cam in a forced induction setup.

When the blower goes in, so will 9:1 forged pistons and manly rods.

whats wrong with the heads? to small for a blower? or just to small of combustion chambers if I were retaining stock pistons?

What if I were to stay away from the blower? I am kinda thinking about just keeping it N/A if I do the HCI. I just want to see what all of my options are.

Don't drop to 9:1 for a blower that's too low. I'll catch heck for saying that but low compression just means you'll have less torque and have to run more boost to achieve whatever your goals are.

Thank of it like this, would you rather run 10:1 compression and 8psi to make 600rwhp

or

run 9:1 and have to run 12psi to make 600rwhp and still have less bottom end torque than the 10:1 setup?

flame away

I hate reverse split cams for any setup. The cams I mentioned will all work great NA, and also readily accept a blower or nitrous without any problems whatsoever.

Centri blowers love compression. Just don't get greedy with the boost 8-10# and get a safe tune and you're good to go. Also, in regards to the cam, that cam should work well. Most people think a "blower cam has to be for example 218/226 117 lsa but that's not the case. If the cam works well N/A it will work even better with the Procharger. BTW, I'll be running a G5X3 112 with my 347/F1C setup....so don't buy into all that "blower" cam hype.

Good luck!

I don't believe you'll want nearly as much overlap as the G5X3 if you're running a blower.

You would be surprised, Arun fron CDN performance has tested with cams that have way more overlap then the G5X3 and the Centri blowers love it. To each there own I guess, but I like to be different.

Mid size cam, not bad at all with a good tune. My new cam is a 228/232 on a 111, should have some nice lope.

Did you used to post on corral.net and modularfords?

yes I did, then a procharged 99 and then a ported eaton/spray 03

I won't be going back to the mustang platform either after owning my Z06 for almost a year now.

yep I hear ya, no comparison. I had a silver 01 for 3 years, and now a blue 02.

I was just going to finish piecing together my procharger kit, but a buddy of mine offered me his heads, cam, intake, headers, T1 bars, pfadt shocks, and 19" CCW sp500's for less than the CCW's cost new + my stock parts and me install everything so I cant pass that up. I was just curious if I could still put my blower on this or if I should just sell it

If you're buying pistons then go for it, they can make the pistons with whatever dish you need to reach your compression. I'd go 9.5:1 or higher.

I'd rather see you spec out a cam for what you want to do. They are cheap enough and that would make a big difference.
Ask Tony from AFR about the heads. They are good heads
Scoop up the fast 90 manifold at least. Just my .02

Will that cam pass CA emissions?

Don't get a fast 90 if you plan on putting a blower on the car. They have been known to crack on forced induction applications.
