Default Nitrous Questions- Timing and Chips...

I have a NX 150 wet shot on my car. I am running the fuel side alittle fat since I removed my MAF screen a while back. The fuel is 91 octane. I am receiving a slight ping during my 3rd gear pull. Has anyone gotten a SuperChips or other custom chip to pull timing when they are using the juice? What is the stock timing at from the factory? Is there a way to manually pull timing on the 2001?

I am not a N²O expert but I would say run 93 octane gas and that will get rid of any minor detonation or ping. In my old turbo cars higher octane always cured ping and detonation.

Hmmm you are running 91 octane and getting some ping. Have you ataped the engine to see what your mix is and see if you are getting some KR?? Usually the aftermarket pcm adjustments ad timing. You can pull some timing witha iat tircker that is low on resistence and make the the pcm think it is really hot. Or you can disable the KR sensor by pulling th ewire and get 3* off right there. Atap the car and get what your mix, timing and KR are. Also use higher octane than 91 when running nitrous or add some toulene or xylene.

ICULUKN-C5, better gas rather than pulling timing out is the way to go.

I agree with Cam on the better gas. I wouldn't run 91 in my car unless I was going to have to walk, and then I fill up with at least 93 at the next stop.

As for the n2o... Solenoids are known to fail. A fuel solenoid failure can mean the end to your engine. One of the problems is restrictions in any given line feeding either the fuel or n2o. Something as simple as a T for a purge valve can cook your motor by restricting fuel flow.

My suggestion is get it on a dyno with wide band o2 and put it through its paces thoroughly, exactly the way you race it. Any ping or KR is indicative of running lean... which is an engine limiting move. Without seeing all of your mods etc, it appears you are indeed running lean, and need some computer tuning to adust for your mods. I'm not sure if GMS is making a MAF for the 2001, but if they are, it will richen up your mixture and "may" help.

I'd still go for a dyno tune with wide band o2 to get specifics, and then plan from there. Feel free to shoot me an email if you want more details on what I've done to work the same issues.

Regards

Im hitting the Dyno on monday. They have a wideband O2 there. Let you all know what the HP/ Torque numbers are on the bottle. Unfortunatly in AZ there is only 91 Octane or race fuel 103@ 5 bucks a gallon.

Try 2 gallons of Toluene per tank of gas. That will get your octane up to 94-95. I pay $5.51 a gallon and it is 114 octane.

What is Toluene and where do you get it?
