I need some help again, I want to replace the sway bars (front and rear) on my 98 coupe with a set from a Z-06 now I'm I going to see a difference on turns, also will I need to get an alignment?
I had a C-4 with stock suspension and it cornered like it was on a rail, thats the feeling I would like to get on my C-5.
You will definately see an improvement in handling with the Z06 sways (especially if you replace your plastic endlinks with the metal ones). No alignment is required for sway bar replacement. Not sure that swaybars alone will make it "corner like it's on rails" but it will reduce body roll, and reduce understeer.
If you want to see the most improvement, replace the springs and the shocks as well...Z51 would be cheaper than the Z06, and you get almost as good of a suspension. If you do go the spring replacement route, an alignment would be required.
I would look into the poly bushings for the z06 bars, my rubber ones squeaked too much and I had to replace later. Do it all at once and same time (bars, end links, poly bushings). Great mod.
I did it zo6 bars and end links car is on rails no roll at all in turns a great upgrade dont know why they dont come from the factory like this. I replaced f45 with C6z06 shocks and recommend highly. My 99 rides better than new. Very happy with the outcome.
You can order the Z06 sway bars from GM partshouse. They can be ordered with or without metal endlinks. For your 98 you will want to order them with the metal links as your car currently has the plastic ones. Either way, the bars come with bushings. They work fine, I've had mine a couple years now and they work fine, no squeaks or pops.
I replaced the stock bars, end links, monoleafs, and shocks on my 98 coupe with C5 Z06 parts and Bilstein Sport shocks. The sway bars alone will be noticeable, but (in my opinion) the suspension components are engineered as a package deal to work best all together. If you decide to go with Z springs you may need an alignment as stated above because the springs are significantly stiffer and will add about a half inch to your ride hight (at least thats what happened to mine) so you may need to lower it and that would possibly require an alignment. The rear spring is a piece of cake to change, just a few minutes. The front spring will require removal of the lower control arm on one side, easy enough to do but takes longer and is another good reason to get an alignment.
