I have a 2000 C5 that started out a light ticking noise and slight lower gas mileage it has now become louder I took it into a local corvette shop and they have told me that the problem is in the #7 cylinder and that the lifter needs replaced. Has anyone attempted to change one of these before? Any help appreciated.

Yep, and if your going to do one, might as well do them all. Not sure if you can buy them individually anyway.
I would pull the valve cover first, and make sure you don't have a broken spring, which is not uncommon.
You might get lucky, it's a lot less work than pulling the heads..
I would also pull the rockers and check for excessive play and or missing needle bearings .. When i did my heads and cam on my 2000 that has 60k i had 4 very loose rockers but hadnt lost the bearings yet, but they were on the way out also had a bad ticking and had thought lifter... Check it out

Just a thought; the number 7 cylinder is quite often the first one that fails in hi-power applications, due ostensibly to an inherent lean or cooling issue in the LS engine design. You might check compression to be sure it's not rings or piston issues.
