Default the ultimate CAI!!!!

hey guys finally got my cai customized the way i want...runnin haltech front fascia piece and behind it the mighty raptor xxl...not sure if this has been done b4 but let me tell u from 50-160 this thing pulls!! the black couplers u see can be had for 6 dollars @ lowes and fasten to this thing incredibly...no vacuum leaks of any kind...relocated maf, and plenty of cuts on my hands but i cant think of a better intake setup for this car. VARARAM EAT UR HEART OUT!!

also as u can see i basically had to massacre my radiator shroud but hey u cant win the war without burnin the village!! underneath tha car i cut two flaps on either side of the shroud to help fit the raptor xxl...these actually catch air and bring it to the other side underneath the filter so this thing is breathin from the front and bottom!!

Wile I'll grant you points for originality, the shroud is intended to direct the air to the radiator. With it modified like that, I'd be concerned about having sufficient airflow for cooling purposes..

u raise a valid point...however i did run it for about 2 hrs today it never overheated. i was trying to get the computer to get used to the amount of airflow. but it never did i get a very little amount of rpm fluctuation.

Wait till it 98 deg and 100% humidity out to see if yo have any cooling issues!

Now that its installed,,I would use some cardboard to tape to the existing shroud to "CLOSE IN " on the ducting. Once you get the hole closed in better, carefuly remove the old shroud and transpose the new hole on a fresh shroud.

That will help seal the air flow in the radiator path.

For a tiny bit of actual horsepower increase, your motor will more than likely be running much warmer in the summer...so it'll be a wash if that. The filter will need lots of extra maintenance being that close to the roadway.
The cooler weather now is that seat of the pants "improvement" you're feeling.
I give you points for being creative though. Just need to consider the other ramifications.

Ok....so what was the point then? So, you destroyed your radiator shroud for what?

It's amazing how much faster a car seems when you can hear induction noise........how I miss the days of flipping over the air cleaner lid to hear that four barrel open up.....

Good Idea, I did mine defferently, I layed the radiator down like a Supercharger kit would do and used the intake off a Supercharger kit. I took the shroud off, havent had any heating issues. It was 101* here in South Carolina and I never went over 190* sitting a the Bank line over 25 mins. I do have a 160* thermostat and fans tuned to it. But I would suggest that to you. Get a lower thermostat and get the fans tuned to match it.

Thanks for sharing your improvement. Very creative It certainly will allow more air into the engine for much less $$ than the vararam. No corvette tax on this mod.

Default gotta give you and A for effort....

That said, on an otherwise stock LS1 (no H/C, No S/C, no headers)
a CAI is virtually a waste of time and money.

I assume you are planning something bigger?

A Callaway Honker, Flip-tie mod or vararam would have served you better, IMHO. I wouldn't drive in the rain like that if I were you....
