Default Another column question

Final questions, I promise. I've searched and read all the stickys so save save that advice please. 03, manual, 30k miles. I'm getting Pull Key....Service Column Lock on the DIC. Column operates just fine but fuel pump won't let it run. What's my options? Can I trade out a body control module with another 03? Does it have to go to a dealership? HELP! I gotta get this car going asap!

Find a tuner with "HP Tuners" or "EFI Live" software. Both can be used to set the fuel cutoff speed to 200MPH +. GM sets the speed to "2-MPH".

(255MPH is max I believe)

P.S. Install the CLB also.

Sorry, this has been covered DOZENS of times-it has nothing to do with the column lock per se. It's the security kicking in, most likely the key pellet not being read by the cylinder correctly. The CLB is a good idea. Since the steering is not locked it may have been in to GM for 1 of the many recalls already anyway.

Sorry brothers. Disregard my post. I misunderstood the question and problem. I am learning more every day on the forum. Now that I know about the key trouble, I will know what to do if it happens to me.
Thanks,
Brad

BUT, his column is NOT locking-if the fuel didn't cutoff-he could probably drive the car. Again, I'm fairly sure it's the security that's jazzing him up, NOT the column lock per se. He probably really has some GM fix that has gone funky-probably that K-harness pile. Pulling the cover off the bottom of the dash for a peek is in order.

I just started getting the "Service Column Lock" message in my DIC, but I am able to start/drive the car, and when I hit the reset buttom, my odometer comes up in the DIC. Two days so far. As far as I know, I have not received the GM service column lock fix, unless they reprogrammed something the one time I had it in the shop and they did not tell me.

Are the most likely causes of the DIC message, low voltage battery and/or problems reading the key pellet?

To the OP, a little add here for clarification, No, you cannot swap out with another BCM from another car unless you have a Tech2 Scan Tool and the process to use it. There is a method without a Tech2, but its involved and you won't be able to program in the RPO codes. The BCM and PCM share a hidden password between them for security purposes. If you borrow someone's BCM, once you finally get the security to accept it, it won't work in the other person's car without going through the hassel all over again there.

Ok, got it on the BCM. Won't work. To update a little, there was a fuse blown in the block in the passenger footwell that obviously controlled the column lock. I replaced it and now the column lock works as it should. Key out, column locked. Key in switch, column unlocked. Works everytime. Still getting messages on DIC. Still won't drive because of fuel shutoff. My battery is weak so I know it needs replacing. So, 8VETTE7, you seem very knowledgeable about this so aside from the battery, I guess I need to look inside the dash for a harness to see what's been done, if anything. I will do this and let you know what's happening at that point. Thanks so much for everyone's input so far.

Still think it's not reading the key correctly and the Security system is kicking in.

If the pellet isn't being read correctly, the security light in the IP Cluster, should be flashing.
