Re: WOW talk about safty rules for a convertable (Iboomalot)
I face the same issue to, I don't know what my car will do, but I hope with the right tire's and some luck I be under 11 some day.
I have done some research and I have not find any roll bars I like.
I saw a few that did not look so bad, but I could not adjust the seat back all the way.
What could be an idea if we could get more vert owners together, we might be able to get some of the companies who design and make racing cages to design a roll bar who is safe and legal, but also "usable" for more daily pratical use, maybe even a design who could be fairly easy to attach and detach.
Re: WOW talk about safty rules for a convertable (kewlbrz)
ARE did this one a year or so ago. Its in pre form, but is NHRA legal in all respects.
Can be made to be removable too.
LG Motorsports is rumored to be working on one also.
With some paint, it will look nice, it seams like the it not preventing the seat back either :)

topless, the pic is only 51K :)
B u t i t ' s s o w i d e :p:
reeves, As I understand, the finished product was much better, and didnt have to notch the tonneu cover. Make Nick Agostino can chime in.
The car is listed on ARE's customer page as Lloyd Marks' and the bar is described as an 8-pt cage. Anyway, here's a pic of the same bar in a different stage, perhaps earlier than the w i d e one Shawn posted, without the upper rear braces. The thing that might be attractive about this one is the placement of the main hoop (although a smaller hoop would be nicer for a removeable bar.)
Re: WOW talk about safty rules for a convertable (MDL-01C5)
I've been able to get away with high 11s with no rollbar (so far so good). First time to the track with the car the I was told a bar would be needed if it ran less than 13.50. I guess they just had to quote from the book but not follow it :)

E-town is tough so you have to make sure you have everything required for the ETs that the car will be running. I won't even think of bring the Vette down to NJ.
Re: WOW talk about safty rules for a convertable (tbyrne)
Although the roll bar pictured above looks great (wish I had one).....It technically isn't legal (at least by my reading of the NHRA rules). NHRA States that " All roll bars must be within 6 inches of the rear or side of the drivers head, extend in height at least 3 inches above the drivers helmet with the driver in normal driving position....." I don't know about your vert....But my helmet hits the roof. Noc chance to get three inches of clearence.
With all of that said. I think most tracks will probrobly let you race if you have a roll bar despite it's legality. Another point to keep in mind....If you are faster then 12.0 sec. you have to have wrist restraints. This was a new one by me...but that's what they tried to use to throw me out last weekend. Man what a pain.
