YES---quite often people will purchase Z06 take-offs which are 3.42's--The Z06 diffs have an "SP" on the tag which means it has shot peened gears --they are supposed to be stronger---You will have to re-use the front cover off your A4 diff as the 6-speed does not have one--it slides right in-- (I bought one off E-B---y for $600 with 5k miles on it) works perfect--

I bought my '04 Z06 rearend off of Ebay for $600 as well but mine only had ~100 miles on it......works perfect.
Did all of you guys put in high stall converters? I did and think it was a mistake. Now I don't enjoy driving my Vette. Need to make some kind of a change.

How high a stall did you go with? I've seen several members state in the past that they had good luck with the factory convertor, and several others stated they'd recommend not going over 2800. I haven't done the 3.42 swap.........yet, so am just offering up what I seen others saying.
all depends on what type of verter you go with. A yank that is built super tight you may not notice at all from what I've heard. My friend put some 3600 in his, and it felt like crap. Go with RPM, they sell very tight ones. Converter technology has come a long way since your 70's hot rods where if you had a stall, it took flooring the pedal to get the thing moving. i have a yank ss3600 and you wouldn't even notice it in there until you take it to the track or give it a romp.
I put the 3.42 from my MN6 into the wife's A4 with a Yank 3200 and upgraded the PCM with new shift points, etc. That car is fun to drive - for an auto.

Well I supposedly got a Vigilante 2800. Bought it used and man is it loose. Tested it out by turning off TC and nailing it and watching where it flashed to before moving. Try 3500. and when driving around town, Its like driving a manual where the clutch slips (which is pretty much whats happening). At the track its great and if I romp it and go WOT, its a blast but since I drive it alot aside from those fun times, I'm not liking it so much.
I did drive a friends extremely similar modded Vette except he has a Yank 3500. Much tighter. I was surprised it was that high a stall. Drives way superior to mine. plus he got .2 better in the qtr too.
I'm not sure if I should try to have this one restalled or just get something else. May try the one Mike Mercury suggests. Its a tight GM 2450 converter. I think its pretty cheap too.

Yank SS3600 and I love it! Future plans Yank SS4000 and 3.73s maybe.

I have a MN6 and my wife has the A4. I want to go to either 3.90 or 4.10 on mine and put my 3.42 on hers. I do have to get a different stall converter?
You don't have to get a different stall but it does improve performance. Yank stalls are pretty tight so the feel is close to stock. Changing the stall is easy and you're in there already when doing the diff so why not. You will need to reprogram the PCM for new shift points, etc. Don't forget the seal plate on the A4.
I went with 4.10s on my h/c MN6 and love it. 3.90's are great as well.
I have a the Mike Mercury stall also. It really didn't do much for me, but my tuner doesn't know much about auto's so he couldn't do much with it to maximize it. He was even having trouble on the dyno with it. The mike mercury one is pretty nice though, and will flash to about 2200-2400, but isn't much of an improvement over stock.
