Default FAST intake question

Looking into getting a FAST intake manifold and was wondering how much improvement is there with a ported one over one straight out of the box unported.

I think porting is what makes them the sure shot winner over the LS6. With a FAST 92 and Callaway Honker installed I gained 40 hp on my 408 with only those two items installed. I got mine ported by Vengeance. I believe it was well worth it!

Porting one might be the way to go. I've seen several post where guys with modded engine have claimed 25+ hp over their stock intake. I installed a FAST 90, professionally ported LS2 TB, and a couple more small mods and only picked up 8rwhp
Maybe professional porting of these things makes the difference

I think it depends on the heads. I found out upon later dis-assembly that the ports on my Dart heads didn't match the FAST ports well at all and the heads were actually putting an obstruction in the flow path. I have read that there is another brand of head (can't remember which but I believe it is an Edelbrock casting) that has a similar mis-match. Like Bottle Fed, I picked up a few up top and lost some down low. Its easy to blame the intake, but when things like that happen you have to look at all variables to figure it out. In my case, it was simply a component mis-match. There was nothing wrong with either the heads or the intake, but together they simply didn't perform. However, the fact that the upper hp increased and the hp curve didn't roll over as quickly as it did with the LS6 intake made it obvious to me that the intake was performing and there were other issues with the setup.

Vettenuts brings up a great point.

Think of performance as a system. At some point, there is a weak link in the system, and that's what you have to concentrate on. For stock cars, adding a FAST will get you next to nothing. Only when your engine mods outpace your intake airflow do you need to upgrade. Dixonk gained 40hp, but has a 408. BottleFed picked up only 8hp. See what I mean. Plus, as Vettenuts mentioned, some combination of parts don't work well with one another.

Best thing is to do you research and choose wisely.

These threads are very helpful to me. I also was looking in to a FAST to go with my cam and 5.3 heads on my LS1. At this time I have an LS6 intake. I don't think 10-15 HP is worth $2000.

I have a set of 243 ported heads that i am going to install with a comp cam 224/228.
I still have a bit more time before i do the change over and is why i am trying to work out weather or not i ditch the ls6 intake with ported throttle body i have for the FAST 90/92 with ls2 throttle body.

Will the Fast intake ports be a good match for the ls6 243 heads?

I only want to do this once, and do it right and then get the car tuned.

To get the most out of a FAST you want to have it professionally ported and if the vendor is able to port match it to your heads that would be even better. Otherwise when it gets to you get the dremel ready and port match it yourself. I don't want to start a FAST bandwagon and tell you to jump on it because everyone's opinion and results will vary. Me personally they have done me right!

I recently installed a ported FAST 92 (ported by Vengeance), and a Lingenfelter 90mmTB.My car has so much more instant power now. I will be getting a new dyno tune on the 31st. I will post my numbers then.
