Default A few guestions

Good morning everyone and Merry Christmas. Now what do you call the dog bone looking things that hold the sway bar? I need to put new rubber in but for the life of me can not think of the name. Also what do you call the rubber thing that goes on the drive line. I have a bad odor in the car and read in here somewhere that was the cause. The smell comes after it is driven for a couple of hr. not ac comes from the center consol. Ok I know this is a lot but changed my brakes yesterday every thing went well but on the drivers side front the caliper now hits the wheel weight did not befor. 99 conv. 68000 miles. Sorry this is so long but these are winter to do list. Thanks in advance

The sway bar item is the end link, not sure about the other.

Replacing brake pads moves the calliper out more than it was with worn pads. Wheel weights that were close to the calliper before the change could now hit. HTH BH

You may need to elaborate on the "rubber driveline thingy".
The only rubber things on the driveshaft that comes to mind are the flex couplings (they are the modern u-joints these days).
They can fail under high stress, there are some threads here about them. But replacement cost will be many hundreds of dollars; gotta remove the diff, tranny, torque tube, etc.

If you AC is acting up, not blowing out the right vents, you may have the dreaded acid leak on the vacuum line. the first check is to pull the battery and look for acid destruction underneath - bad news.
lots or threads here about that also.

Thanks for the replys I found the bushings for the end links will replace them tomorrow. I will take the wheel off and have the weight relocated. Never thought about the acid but that is the smell just could not put my finger on it before. Will look in to that next week. This forum is great. Just need my thought process jogged a little from time to time.

Not sure what would cause the odor but if it is coming from the console area and not the A/C then you may have two problems. Problem one would be the cause of the odor and problem two would be why you are smelling it coming from the console. The console is sitting on the tunnel which encloses the torque tube with the shifter linkage mounted on it. There should be a rubber seal around the shifter that keeps odors and exhuast fumes from entering the cabin. I would check to make sure the seal is there or doesn't have a hole in it.

Well looked under the battery no problem there. Looks like maybe there was a problem but was repaired. This odor comes from the center glove box. When you open it up after a long ride the smell will knock you down. I think I will pull the consol and see if there is something under there. Anyone know how to remove the consol? Thinking maybe the plastic is getting too hot. Thanks for the help

When you replace the end links, be sure you use the aluminum links and not the plastic ones that came as OEM on the 99's. Price should be about $100 bucks for four links.

Yeah, get the solid links. Gene has 'em for about 93.00 for the set.

Is your car a manual transmission? Smell could be clutch. If it is a manual, put it in 5th or 6th gear and floor it, if revs go up without speed (clutch slipping), your clutch is going bad.

No auto it takes a couple of hr running for the smell to become bad not always there. I have the solid links installed. Thanks anyway I did this when I first got the car but the rubber bushing have broken I think maybe lowering it on stock bolts may have rushed the need to replace those.
