They installed my Comp CAM at TSP into my 418 short block

240/244 604/608 112 duration. Strong Mid range power.

My short block should arrive in about 10 days !!

I upgraded my stall converter to 3500 @ hughes. Should get it back end of this week

Well Mike Norris told me this... so I will try this as well.

"I used to have a leak at times with cometic gaskets and would use the GM coolant additive to cure the leak."

Thanks Mike!

So to be clear. You have a newly installed engine..... have a coolant leak from the head.....and you are going to try to fix it with an additive?

I have a new short block (TS&P). AFR heads with cometic gaskets... water is coming out of the ARP bolt on the back passenger side. Its the bolt closest to the exhaust manifold. SHort bolt in the LS3 water jacket.

I would say the right way to do it is to remove the head, check to see what is actually wrong and go from there. But I have had the Cometics "seep" a bit (especially if you do not spray them with a coat of sealer) and the GM additive that was used on all Northstar engines works well for the all aluminum engines and very minor leaks. If it is running out then that is another story for sure.

Now if the addI would also check the head gaskets to be sure one did not get damaged during install or shipping. I had a GM gasket leak once and it ended up being a very small indentation on the gasket causing the issue.

Hopefully it is something simple for seans sake

Thanks for the tips I will let you know what happens. Hopefully I will not have to pull head and check that new cometic gasket. If so it sounds like I may be able to fix it with a shot of sealer... hopefully. fingers crossed.

Well... the cometic gasket was a little tweaked. Thats what was causing the leak. Which of course means we had to take the head off to fix it. But head is back on Coolant is in the motor... and its not leaking. YEAH!!

I think the gasket might have been tweaked during shipping because the 3 layers in the area the water was coming from was not totally flat.

Lesson learned...

I am running...

500 plus Horse power sounds mean... and thats just idle.

Going to put more break in miles on it, make sure rings are good and ready... and put my 850 DP HOLLEY on... and head to the track.

temp is awesome... 190 sitting at a long red light... cruising down the highway about 180 degrees. Oil Pressure is good... no smoke at all.

I wanna Change the oil out before making full throttle passes (just a few hundred miles). What do you recommend? I was going to go back with with MOBIL 5/30

For the first couple oil changes I'd either keep running a bottle of GM Engine Oil Supplement with whatever oil you like (Valvoline VR1 is good), or run the Joe Gibbs Break-In Oil.

Yes we have the GM oil treatment in the motor now. So I should use it for the next 2 oil changes?

And what do you recommend for mileage between changes?

This first oil change I was trying to get 500 miles and then change it. Unless you think I should change that also?

Please advise.

850 carb I got was crappy... Now I have 780 AED ran awesome...

Till I blew up my TH350!

I guess it can't hold that 418 ci LS3

I just picked up a Th400 good for 800hp so I shouldn't have to change this tranny again!!

Never made it to the track... but I did run against a motor cycle from a roll (not sure the size or type)... I left him and he could never pass me. He was really surprised. And I had a passenger in the car!

So It makes some power for sure.

stay tuned...

WELL UPDATE... Finally got to the TRACK. unfortunately I did not realize my tranny fluid was a qt low... and I could not shift into 3rd at the top of the track. So I would have to coast or bump the Rev limiter at the top of 3rd Gear.
