In the tank filter applies to '04. Two tanks applies to '97-'04.
Didn't the fuel system change happen mid '03?

Possibly. Seems like I recall someone mentioning that before. One thing's for sure though and that is that all the '04s are FFS systems.

I'm big on preventive maintenance. I changed it when the car was 4 years old...even though it had only about 10,000 miles on it at the time.

I hear ya. Me too. I'd MUCH rather perform PM than CM any day.

I have 30k miles on the original fuel filter. No plans to replace it for a long time.

I do it every 20k miles or so. In the past I've had issues with bad/clogged filters that were restricting my fuel delivery enough to rob power as low as 5k RPM.

Changed mine at 40k seems a reasonable life for a fuel filter

I have an '01 vert. I've posted about a gasoline smell when I allow the gas pump to shut it's self off. Could the gas smell be the result of a leaking fuel filter ? Is the filter and the cost to replace it expensive ?

Changed mine at 95k when adding a blower. Very clogged, won't wait that long again.

The FFS fuel system started with VIN number ending in 35114929, built on November 22, 2002 for 03's and have no external filter as well as 04's.

I've been wanting to know if my '03 had an external filter or not. Thanks for the info.

Ah one of the lucky Oct/early Nov 2002 builds for an 03 model!

Default Mine leaked like a sieve nylon retainer on line disintegrated

I changed mine about 65000 miles when it leaked all over the left muffler and tailpipe. One of the 2 nylon retainers on the line going into the filter disintegrated. It took me about 2 hours and that included removing the 2 bolts from the left muffler, sliding it aside (don't have to remove it just unbolt it), then took over a half hour to release the disintegrated fastner from the filter without damaging the fuel line.
Replace BOTH nylon retainers or you will be sorry later. New filter came with both retainers.
