Brake light issues
I've been reading and reading. Saved a bunch of threads but I figured I'd try a short cut and ask for some ideas. Please keep replys to similar problems.
My problem is I lost all 4 brake lights but the 3rd brake light is working. Emergency flashers work only up front. Tail lights work fine and so do the turn signals. I have LED tail lights and I tried normal bulbs as well. I have Richards LED bypass flasher installed. I also have sequential turn signals and a 3rd brake light flasher. All the add on electrical toys appear to be doing their job.
I tried the jab the flasher switch method. The turn signals work fine. High beam switch is good. All stalk functions are working but could it still be the stalk? Checked the fuses under the hood and passenger footwell.
I know the brake lights are separate from the 3rd brake light.
Tomorrow would be a ground check but since everything else works is that a likely culprit or a waste of time? The flasher switch is a problem on these cars so that's a possibility, or since the front flashers still work maybe not?
What I'm looking for is people who have had the exact same brake light problems with the 3rd brake light working fine and what the fix is so I know where to start first.

I checked the fuses 8 and 15 and they're good. I checked the brake switch and it's good. Now I'm after the hazard switch which isn't fun. Will report back after that abortion is completed. Damn I love C5's.
Problem has nothing to do with any GM part. After removing the switch and breaking one of the mounting tabs the Hazard switch checked out OK. Now the car is ripped apart chasing the problem and I did find the culprit. I will be contacting the forum vendor and see if I can get the small info I need to fix the problem once and for all. We'll call it bad crimping and lack of soldering for now.

Well problem resolved again. The replacement part is also defective. At least this time I was able to go right to it and when I wiggled it the lights worked. I had soldered up the old one and was able to swap them out.
I respect the vendor so I won't bash the product but I can't believe the poor quality I'm seeing.
the brake lights work (all 3) when the park, and head lights are turned on. however, when all lights turned off - only the 3rd light works. signal lights work on all settings. help please! thanks!
Not saying this is the fix, but I had a similar problem when my car was new. Brake lights would not go off! Turned out to be the 4way flasher (emergency button). Same thing a few years later when turn signals worked intermittently, again emergency flasher. So..., that would be a starting place, and no, you dont have to take the dash pad off to change. There is a thread here somewhere that gives details and is how I changed mine. Good luck.
