I have a stock 99 LS1 with a 6sp M/T. I have decided to make this car into a project car I can take to the track and still put on the street. I have not driven the car in almost 3 years. I am look for suggestions on how I should modify this car. Where should I start and what should I do? Suspension first? Brakes? Engine? I would like to get this car up to 600hp. Any suggestions?

Reason: More clear title
Are you talking about road racing/HPDEs or drag racing?
If road racing start by just taking it out the way it is and upgrading over time. Rim and tire mods, along with a good suspension tune will take you a long, long way!!
If you haven't already spent some time over in the roadracing section, I strongly recommend that you do. Lots of great advice over there.
Thanks for the help. I will read through that forum. I will also take my car out to the track. I have a friend that has a 95 355 spider and I am looking to do some mods and give him a whippin!
Something to consider...a '99 that hasn't been driven in three years I would think that you need to do a serious looking at for the seals, bushings and so on. Things will dry up and crack therefore problems can happen and that's the last thing you want before suddenly taking it to the track where the highest demands are placed on the car.
Great point! I really appreciate the help people have given me here. I have had a few people send me messages off line as well. What I am thinking is have the car serviced as you are suggesting and my preparation for the track will be safety first. I will make sure I have a good seat & harness set up. What about a 4 or 6 point roll bar? Then, I will get on the track and work up from the wheels & tires. I will do suspension & brakes before I do one mod to the engine.

^^Don't do the roll bar. Get a harness bar instead. Here is a link to show you what one looks like.
You can get recommendations by do a search over in the roadracing section.
Driving a car on the street with a roll bar/cage is dangerous. If you get into an accident and hit your head it could be very bad!
One very inexpensive thing you can do to the car is to replace the plastic end links on the anti-sway bars with metal endlinks. Should reduce body roll a lot.
There are some very good books out there are driving. Here are a couple of suggestions.
Ross Bentley - Speed Secrets 1 & 2
Carroll Smith - Drive to Win
Keith Code - A twist of the Wrist (written for motorcyclist but a lot applies to cars as well).
Definitely go through your car and make sure everything is okay. You may need to replace your tires if they are old. Lots of threads on best street tires for HPDEs.
I agree: safety, tires, brakes.
The safety is obvious; and I saw a friend in a 240 HP C4 with racing tires and brakes whip all over a stock C5 Z06 at Thunderhill one day.
Independent1, I noticed you saying that metal end links are a good thing. I'm installing some next week.
But not just handling help, I should see at least 5 Horsies, right??? HeHe.
