Hvac - no comm

Hvac - no comm
I have been dealing with my HVAC unit on my 97 over the past months.
Originally, I had the cold A/C blowing from the passenger vents and warm from the driver vents. That was intermittent.
Then my HVAC unit went completely dark!
I removed it from the dash, took it to an electronics shop and paid them to resolder points recommended here (I am not as steady as I used to be!). Supposedly, they checked it out and all was well.
I replaced the unit in the dash, but still no lights on the unit!
I pulled up DIC codes and found this HVAC - NO COMM.
Would this have anything to do with my "dark" HVAC unit or is it completely dead?
Please, where do I go to trace down the HVAC - NO COMM problem?
