Default manual shifter adjustment?

i have taken all the console and such off and i did losen the shifter bolts and shifter linkage, now what- the only thing i did not do is see that the shifter is laying in the left side of the craddle.I have had trouble getting the car into reverse so i thought it might be the adjustment.I also seen the bushings that the 2 bolts that hold the shifter in place look cracked.Any other advise?

thanks mark

There is no way to adjust the shifter from the top. You might try the Anti Venom mod that involves shimming the detent bolt on the transmission side.
Do a search to find out how to do.
It helped on my C5.

Check out this thread... pay special attention to post #4

The only thing I'll add is this, when you have the mentioned torx screw out. Make sure the shifter bolt hole is perfectly aligned with the shift rod bolt hole before reinstalling and tightening the torx screw.

Good Luck....

From the top is how the alignment procedure is accomplished since the shifter is an internal rail design w/o external linkage.

Hattitude's link is good. A couple extra comments:
You might put the shifter in neutral, remove the four bolts and loosen the rear clamp bolt, and lift the shifter out. Then lube the pivot and bottom plastic bushing really well with a spray lubricant or a PTFE light grease. Also slide the rod that remained in the car back and forth, and lube it.
Then plsce the shifter back in, be sure the little allen-wrench-looking neutral-setting pin on the front of the shifter moves down into the hole well- about 1/2 inch. Then bolt the shifter back in, tighten the back clamp bolt, and raise the neutral pin back up.
The rubber bushings on the right do tend to crack a bit, but mine were just surface cracks, no problem.

Then drain the trsanny fluid and pump in 3.5 or so Qts of a good dexron ATF.

I think you will like the results.
