Looking to buy a code reader/scanner. Not just for my 98 Vette but for the other vehicles I routinely maintain. Looking at a Actron CP9180 for $150. Does anyone have experience with this code scanner or others that you have used. Do you also know where you get a code manual or is it just plugged into your computer? Thanks
i dont have any experince with that one but i found one on ebay for 70 dollars its called memo scan it reads and clears codes gives freeze fram and live data. it works with my 99 and all other cars i work on. you might want to check it out. if it has what you need its a good buy. 99c5
I just bought a 9175 off ebay, $80. unused. If you have CEL on it will read the code # and tell what it is. I have not done much more than clear a couple of codes. It is just a reader and you can freeze the data if you need to. I too have other cars to maintain and got tired of running to autozone every time one the fleet had a CEL.
The cheapy ones won't tell you much more than what the DIC will. The Actron type scanners will give you I/M status that the DIC won't but the DIC has access to all modules where the cheap scanners only read Generic OBD codes.
