Default C6 performance from a c5

I have a 2001 A4 coupe that is totally stock. What would it take to get the ls1 up to the 436hp mark like the c6 with the dual mode exhaust? I know there many routes what are some that you have taken?

not much really considering that C6 HP is at the crank, Many C5 running around on this site with 400+ at the rear wheels. rough calculations put it around 460 at the crank for M6 cars.

Heads, cam, headers, CAI and a dyno tune will get you there in a snap

The real question is what is your true goal? Do you just want a dyno number of around 380 to 390 rwhp? Or do you want similar street and track performance?

If you want the dyno numbers of an M6 C6 you'll need a head/cam package to get there from an automatic C5. But that won't guarantee you would beat a bolt-on C6 at the track or on the street. If you want that kind of performance...modify your drivetrain. Rear gears and a nice stall with the bolt-on's will have you showing mildly modified C6's your tail lights all day long.

Decide what you truly want first and go from there...

Decide what you want, but I have no problems keeping up w/C6's on the track.

I am looking to keep it very streetable, that being said if i did not want to go into the engine (heads cam etc) how is the STS system or supercharger systems, I want to keep my stock hood.

My set up has good street manners. If you don't want to change hoods and/or go into the engine, a centrifugal supercharger system like A&A (which is on special at the Vette Doctors) or ECS' Novi system (which may still be on sale) would be the way to go.

Those systems installed on C5 will destroy a C6

get good headers and a vara ram intake kit for starters as any other mods will be hindered if it can't get air out or in nearly as well as with stock. You would be really suprised at the difference AR or LG pro headers make.

You already should have an LS6 intake manifold, so your up on that.

Look at the front of your passenger side head and you'll find out which heads youhave. Should be 241...

IMHO, if you are going to mod your C5 for power, then mod smart and do so to meet a goal rather than using the C6 as some benchmark to meet.

Power mods cost big coin and in the end the money you spend to essentially add 86HP to your C5 (correctly and with some degree of reliability) you could have bought a C6.

Now I know what you are thinking, "I don't like the looks of the C6" and "if I wanted one I'd buy one", etc. etc.... However, the point I'm trying to make is keeping up with the Jones' is always an expensive pursuit. Don't allow anyone to tell you otherwise.

I must respectfully dissagree IMO, a CAI, heads, cam, longtubes and a good tune should more than get him there and be less than $5k, at that level this should not affect reliability that much (the A4 could be an issue if pushed any further).

Start off with LT headers,C.A.I.,Dyno tune.That should make around 350rwhp and keep up with a C6 400 HP.Your going to need a small cam to run with a C6 with 436 HP in my opinion.Also some 3.42 gears will make a real good excelleration improvement. Mods are not cheap so do your basics and go from there.

Most of the mods mentioned here.... CAI, heads, cam and longtubes can be purchased on this site, other LSX sites and even the auction site at minimal expense. I picked up headers, x-pipe, hi-flow cats, cam, springs and moly pushrods for less that $1500 bucks.

It just takes some searching for the parts.

My 2 cents.

you are absolutly correct 5k is the bottom number but lets talk top of the line. LPE will do it for $6,495 turn key with a 1 year warr. to me that is about as good as you can ask for and it is still less than a new c6 also this is for about 500 at the engine. I still think that for 5k you can find several good local shops that will do a reliable 440 engine hp package.

Don't know where you are without a filled out profile, I'm on the East coast and had similar goals. ECS built & installed a 427 & RPM A4 so I could reach my goals. The LS1 would not get up up to the power of a C6 without getting real radical. I have a nice cam and good drivability with much more than C6 power. Gas milage doesn't look too bad either but don't have numbers yet, its in for the winter.

Like I said before, if you are a good wrench, have a good garage and can purchase and install everything yourself then you could increase the C5s BHP to the C6s for $5k or less. I doubt that most could do it correctly and without cutting corners, but I don't know the OP so I can't speak on his mechanical skills.

For the price above, you can have a nice down payment on a C6.

Personally, I don't like the C6. In fact, when my C5 is paid off, I will probably go the LPE route rather than trade up so I get where the OP wants to go.

The point is, simple bolt on parts are not going to get him there. At least not the right way.

you need head cam package.

I can't compete a stock LS3 MN6 with my C5 MN6 (headers/intake/tuned : 345 rwhp, 410 Hp crank).

I miss 30hp ... AND gears ! the C6 MN6 > C5 MN6.
The 5th Gear is too long.

I'm taking C5 A4 without difficulty all day long. My 1/4 : 12'49 ... 12'77 without headers.

All you really need to do is buy a SC kit from A&A (Andy).

It will allow you to keep stock manners until you get into boost. Fits under stock hood.

When you go to sell the car, you can unbolt it, and sell the car as it came from the factory and sell the SC kit separately. You will come out way farther ahead $$$ wise.

Also, your power should be comfortably higher than a C6.

Ouchie, $9,000 is a boatload of money for those few mods. I would do a SC way before this.

Take a look at our single turbo system http://hinsonsupercars.com/p-44-hsc-...turbo-kit.aspx

This kit will provide you with 500+ rwhp on a bone stock motor and have excellent driveability. You can use the stock hood. Feel free to give us a call or email if you have any questions.
