I am trying to put shocks on the front of my 00 frc tonight. I do not have zip ties handy to compress the shock to remove it. It looks as though I can unbolt the upper control arm and maneuver the shock out this way. Will removing the upper control arms throw off my alignment? I believe all alignment adjustments are made by the lower control arm but I want to be sure before I remove. Does anyone have a quicker/ easier way to get the shocks out? Thanks
I recently installed C6 Z06 shocks on my 99 frc and I was able to compress the old and new shocks by hand when I removed and installed the new ones. No auto parts stores here had zip ties strong enough to hold the shocks which is the ONLY reason I went to trying it by hand. The only problem I ran into was losing one of the upper rubber mounts. I really needed a second set of eyes to see where the mount flew when it popped into my engine bay. Good Luck

It won't hurt anything if you take you time and make sure that you put everything back exactly where it came from. I replaced mine by unbolting the upper control arms...but I was also removing the springs. Here's the instructions I used. Good luck.
All done thanks for the quick help guys! I found it was 48ft lbs but realized my only torque wrench is in inch pounds and maxes out about half that. So they are about as tight as they were when I removed them. I only had to loosen the rear side of the upper control arm and remove the two bolts in the front of the control arm. This gave me enough room to get the shocks in and out without compressing them and only takes about 5 minutes each side to do. I test drove the car and wow! My old z51 shocks were still good but I changed to c6z06 shocks and c6z51 sways with pfadt urethane bushings and the car is just planted now. The body roll I had before is now almost non existent. Now my problem is me sliding out of the seats in a hard turn. . Thanks again for the help guys. I cant wait until the 31st to try it out at the autox! casslaw you should come out. It is a blast.
