Default Fuel Gauge Problems

I have a C5 1998 with a fuel gauge that wants to quit sometimes. It is after I fill up and run for a while. The gauge goes down to empty and the check gauges light comes on. I can turn the car off and restart, and everything is working great.

Can anyone help in why and what I need to do to fix!!!

Use Techron before a couple of fill-ups.

SEARCH fuel gauge and read all the others with the same problem, or read the sticky at the top of the page.

Tried techron on my low mileage 99 and it did not cure the problem. The dealer solved with a $1200,00 pump replacement.

OUCH!!!! I hope that it is not a pump, but the car still runs great, the only thing is that the gauge goes to 0, but does not effect the car itself....

Its caused by sulfur build up on the gauge sensors. If it's still intermittent thats a good thing. Stick with the Techron and it should work. it certainly did for me after only a couple of bottles. Its possible to do the sensor change DIY if it gets to that but Techron should be the solution. you might want to consider changing where you get your gas if its causing fouling. Try a Chevron or a Shell station.
