My shop manual seems to indicate that there is a hood ajar indicator switch for export models only. can anyone confirm if this is true? if it is, is it possible to add this to a domestic model?
not even concerned with hooking it into the BCM for factory anti-theft or a DIC alert or anything like that (although that would be nice) I want to add it to an aftermarket alarm.
Bracket, hood ajar ind lp sw (export) #10285408
Switch, hood ajar ind lp sw---------Not Serviced
From parts manual that I have. But you have to think someone has a part # for it. From the illustration, it looks like it mounts next to the underhood fuse block. HTH

Is there a way to release the hood without being inside the car?
Is there a way to release the hood without being inside the car?
to the user...no, but to a thief absolutely. the hood is fiberglass, they could break it open, pry it open, or as a common threat to many vehicles, if you know where it is, you can crack open the fender, slit the sheething, and use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the hood release cable from the outside. as a matter of fact, I think the hood release cables are easily accessible to someone with small hands and who knows the car through the side vents in the fenders.
regardless of why, I just think that opening the hood should be something that sounds an alarm, even if it doesn't seem to be that great of a threat.
