My friend has a 89 with very low miles..His mechanic has it for months now changing everything he can .if it don't work he puts the old part back and stsrts over.. the problem is the car starts fine then when you try to give it gas it bogs down like a choke problem..New gas .new conputer, new sock and fuel pump..I have a c3 and give him much help with the high tech stuff. have to move to c4

I would post in the C4 forum. By sock, I take it you mean the gas tank strainer? You did not mention the fuel filter, was this changed?

Ignition - Since this is an L98, it has a distributer, which provides input pulses to the ECM.

Fuel - I believe a minimum oil pressure must be present for the fuel pump relay to stay energized(through the oil pressure switch).

Throttle - The ECM looks at the throttle position sensor on startup. If the voltage is not correct, the ECM will assume the engine is flooded, and reduce fuel.

Once the engine is running, the MAF comes into play.

Like I said, I'm sure the C4 guys will have more detailed info to offer. Honestly, if the mechanic has had your friend's car for months, and can't figure out an L98.....it might be time to find a new mechanic....

Good luck...

I'm no C4 expert but if it has an optispark ignition and this hasn't been replaced, it's the next place I'd go.
