Actually, you should jack up both the front and the rear, to get the car level as possible when you check the fluid.
Check it with the trans. fluid warmed up to about 100 degrees, and with the engine running. The fluid level should be even with the fill plug on the left side of the trans. pan.

That's exactly how I did it. I think I got the instructions on here by using "search'!
My driveway drops off pretty quick after the garage. I pull the rear wheels right to the edge of the garage (where the door closes) and then just kind of shimmy myself under the back of the car. The exhaust is getting warm on my chest but you can sneak under if you are small enough. I'm 6' 190, maybe couldn't do it if I were 225 though...then I'd drive the car up on a few boards (one behind each wheel and try again) that would buy me an extra inch or two.
Not bad to do. Shame somebody hasn't made a "remote filler" for the trans cooler lines into the radiator. I know, I know, you check it in the pain (I mean pan ) but then you could fill it up front....just dreaming....
