Default Torque Tube replacement pieces

All,

Just wanted to share this nugget with you all....

After getting GM's price of 120 a piece on the torque tube couplers I decided to hunt around. Found that Corvette Central had them on special (I guess they were special) for 35 each. I had done my homework and decided I was going to go with the BMW part (well documented on these forums that they work) but hey, while I could get the Corvette Central ones even CHEAPER, I was good to go.

Got my order yesterday. Guess what? They are the BMW stock replacements! They covered the BMW number with a Corvette sticker. No kidding!

Just thought for some of you who were heistant to go the aftermarket route on this part, this is what the big stores sell as replacement. Factory? No. Workable? Yes.

Now if I can just get theLAPD to send my @#$#@ clutch remote bleeder I'll be knee deep in driveline soon.

I would not use them unless the rubber appears to be very hard. I tried the BMW ones and the drivetrain became very "bouncy" and jerky. Just too soft and they act like springs in the drive shaft.

I just ordered 2 Prothane units from Ebay for $115 each.

I bought the BMW ones off ebatmus or something..working fine so far. My car is fairly low horsepower though..minor bolt ons, I don't really hammer on it..it's an automatic and it has 130K..

Well with the 6-speed my car picked up what felt like a surge driving with the cruise on. As it went on and off the power (say topping a small crest) it would do it. It also squeeked under power for a while but that eventually went away. I attribute both to the couplers. I chased all under the car looking for something that would cause the squeek. Finally, when I replaced the harmonic balancer I could rotate the engine over a 1/8 turn due to the coupler give (parking brake on in gear).

I've pulled them out and they look OK but still they didn't perform very well. Well, there might be a little rubbing on the outsides it's hard to tell.

Don't get them from CorvetteCentral. I double checked and mine don't say made in germany so they are the knockoffs. I am pissed because they told me it was the german ones so now i'm in the process of trying to get my money back and send them back. I had east coast corvette's overnight a new set of German ones. Man he's a great guy to deal with on the phone so i highly recommend him
