I have a '98 targa and the rear hatch won't open. I checked the fuses and they are fine, but for some reason, the remote trunk opener won't work. When I press the button, I can even hear a clicking sound, but that's about it.

We have a C5 Tips & Tricks section on our web site that has information on how to oil the center interior compartment. http://www.cau-llc.com/c5tips.htm
The struts in the trunk need oiling also, and the trunk opens harder in the winter. You should be able to get it to "pop" to be able to oil it if you close one of the doors when you are opening the trunk.

Hi,
I hope you like yoga. There is a shiny tiny silver metal emergeny pull cord under the rear trim. It should just stick out under the carpet or under the center trunk cover. Move the seats forward and crawl in and pull. That will at least get the trunk open so you can diagnosis the problem. If you have a child or small neighbor etc...might be a good chore to crawl in there for a dollar.

I have a 2002 Coupe and when I'm driving around and come to a stop the open trunk button doesn't work. I have to turn off the car and then push the button. Is this some kind of safety feature??????
Re: Trunk won't open! Any thoughts? (stickanddice)
This has happend to me! I pulled the fuse and put it back in and it worked fine.
I also had to reprogram the Key Fobs.
I don't know why? It's just fluke, it happens every once in awhile.

Didn't really enjoy the yoga, but I did manage to manually open the rear hatch by pulling those wires.
I checked the fuses and they were fine. I took out and put the fuses back and gave it a while. I tried everything except reprogramming the keyfobs. By the way, the rear hatch button on the fob won't activate the release either.
Handbrake is up and the car is not even running while I did all this stuff. It's been a week and still nothing. :cry
Called the dealer and they want to charge me $150 for diagnostics (to look at the problem) and then if they fix it, that's all additional charges... :U
Maybe I should just pray that this is an intermittent problem?
Re: Trunk won't open! Any thoughts? (stickanddice)
My 2002 did the same thing about a month after I took delivery. Same symptoms, dash button didn't work, key fobs didn't work. What it was was the wiring harness connector in the trunk (under the carpet) had come loose. Pushed it back in and Ureka!

Jacob:
Before you give up on this problem, move the carpeting back from over the top of the left rear wheel. This is where the receiver is for the key fob and the tire pressure sensors. Check all the wiring to be sure everything is properly connected, and check and ground wires to be sure the're grounded. :D
