Is it safe to remove the oil filter without draining the oil pan?
I know that seems like a really stupid question, but I'd feel even more stupid if several quarts of oil poured out onto the ground; better safe than sorry.

Z06, you are completely RIGHT! There are never stupid questions, but only stupid drivel answers! (=> straight translation from german Language, I hope it works similar in english.....:), if not you might give me some training )
....and, is this C-Forum not exactly set-up for just such purposes? Asking, asking, asking, learning more and more? YOU all know the answer!!
punch a hole in the bottom of the filter with a nail, then loosen the filter a little bit and when the oil stops remove the filter. only the filter will empty unless you have a external oil cooler.

I always use this method and remove the filter first. It will stop dripping in no
time and I believe it allows the oil pan to drain faster and more thoroughly.

Thanks for telling us about that. I'm going to be changing mine in a few days and this will help me a lot since I usually just take it off and get oil all over the place when it runs down the sides and I drop it :smash:
