Default Spun rod bearing

i have a 97 c5, stock ls1 and i ran low on oil. pressure dropped and i spun a rod bearing. 100% .. my question ... is there a way to take out and replace the crank WITHOUT removing the engine... an with this problem, which would be the most cost efficient way of doing so. Thank you so much in advance for your expertise. I cannot afford to pay someone to pull the motor, rebuild, and replace. (or buy another ls1 and swap) at this time.. so if there is any way of doing it without swapping that would be good to know! thanks again!!

You theoretically could get the crank out with the block still in the car, but it will be less work to remove the engine and swap the crank on an engine stand. Is your car a 6 speed or automatic?

You might consider scoping the journals to see just how much wear occurred there as opposed to the inserts. Many years ago I did the same thing to a 283. I used 400 paper to smooth the journals and just put new bearing inserts in it and it went on to be a quite reliable engine - although I did hear occasionally a rod or two upon initial start. When you are bucks down sometimes you can't be picky. I left the engine in the car.
