I slid my wheels/tires into a curb (yes they were on the C5 at the time). Cracked the two drivers side wheels and screwed up the tires.
Insurance adjuster is looking at the car today. Tires have about 8,000 miles on them.
Question - Should the passanger tires be replaced at the same time?
Is it a should or a must ?
If they should be replaced in pairs is it a safery thing, a Goodyear warranty thing, a handling thing or what ?
I assume the insurance guy is going to want to only replace only the damaged 2 tires and not pay for replacement of the 2 good tires ....
I believe it will be fine if you replace the damaged tires with the same kind of tires (Goodyear runflats?). The main thing to remember is you need to have the exact same size and tread pattern on both sides. The mileage difference on the tires should not effect the driving/handling of the car significantly. Good luck! :yesnod:
You did not indicate how much tread is left on your tires and that is more important than how many miles your drove on them. If it were me in your situation I would replace all four tires if the tires measure less than 7/32". If you only replace two tires what will you do when some miles down the road your worn two tires need replacement but the two others still have lots of tread?
I have always thought that non-slip differentials should have matched tires anyway to avoid strain on the differential.
Man you must have slid pretty hard to do that! Any other damage? I'm sure the insurance adjuster will only pay for the 2 damaged wheel/tires. If good tread on the other set, use the new ones and enjoy, just replace all 4 the next time when needed.
If it was me, I'd go to three goodyear dealers and ask for their advice. Wanting business, they will likely advise you to get four new ones. I'd document who told you this, and give the info to the insurance company to get four new tires.
I have driven Corvettes with about 3-4/10 left and they get very slick at that point. At some time, if you only replace two, you will have one side that reaches this point in their life, and one side still hooking up better. This would not be a safe situation.
