Hey all, I'm trying to drop my front lower control arms to get to the leaf spring but it's fighting me. I've removed the lower shock mount and removed the nut that holds the control in place but the bolt/control arm won't drop away. I don't want to hammer the bolt out - I'd hate to strip the bolt.

Thoughts?
The control arm isn't going to just drop away, your going to have to persuade it. Loosen the ball joint nut up to the top of the threads and then either use a plastic dead blow hammer on the end of the A arm (with a piece of wood to protect it) or use a ball joint separator (not a pickle fork) to pop it loose. Some people undo the nut until it's flush with the top of the ball joint post and give the nut a sharp rap with a hammer. If you do this cover the nut with a piece of aluminum bar or something to give it a little protection at least.
Ok this my seem a little unconventional but it has worked every time when I needed the leafs out in the front or to get to the adjustment bolt.
Put a jack under the front rotor and start jacking it up. It will put a ton of pressure on the lower joint and it will pop and no I have never damaged the rotor.
Now I just remove the 4 bolts on the upper control arm and steering tie rod end. It is just easier IMO>

That is a new one. I'm getting ready to change hubs on a couple of cars, I'll give it a try. Thanks.
