Default Steering column lock problem

I checked thru some of the previous threads but couldn't find my problem and don't have the time to look thru what seems like a thousand threads.

The battery in my 99 automatic went dead. I boosted it and got it running and noticed that alarm up. I don't know if it had the recall but I never had a problem with it. The wheel is unlocked. And the car starts. How can I clear the alarm.

I haven't really used the car since October but I just took it for a ride and it runs fine. It didn't cut off above 2 MPH like I have read.

I drove the car, I got it up to 40 mph so I don't think there is a problem with the fuel lock out. I will get the battery charged tomorrow . I have a scan tool for the computer is that what you suggested for clearing the code. Or would it be better just to disconnect the battery?

A "Senior Member" should have read about the column lock thing hundreds of times now as well as how to get/clear codes w/ the DIC. I "assume" you don't keep it on a trickle charger?? Chances are your battery is the cause of this all, keep it charged, clear the codes via the DIC and you'll most likely be fine. Since it didn't really lock you out or keep you from moving you must have had a CLB installed and/or some of GM's attempts to fix it done so I wouldn't worry too much.

A senior member that works 12 hour days and on his days off is remodeling his house. A senior member who is trying to put together a 67 GTO in what spare time he has, and barely has time to take care of his corvette and usually tries to find out things when a problem arises.

I don't keep it on a trickle charger when I need to move it I charge the battery and move it.

Thanks to all the responses guys, after I put a ceiling fan and then paint the ceiling in my daughters room I will go outside and straighten out the problem.

ok every body, play nice and be friends you might consider a trickle charger for two reasons ; first, vetts goe beserk when they dont get their regular dose of 12v dc. secondly, batteries do not do well if repeatedly discharged, especially if it is a redtop, if you have one. also, sounds like you need to get your honeydos done and get some ride time in the vette. at least your battery and c5 will appreciate you

ok, back to work!
