Name This Part...

If you look at the torque values table on pg 4-97 (commonly shown at the beginning of each of the various sections throughout the shop manual) where the numbers - both Metric and English are listed - for the subsequent components under repair, the torque value for this item is NOT listed.
This isn't the first time I have come across a screw-up in the shop manual. Omitting a torque value from a "Fastener Tightening Specifications" table is minor. Take a look at "Engine Controls - 5.7L" on pg 6-482. There you will find an external LH "view" of the trans-axle assy., illustrating the location of three exterior attached components. Tell me if you see anything strange?
I realize of course that a different year manual or "interweb" version may not have the exact same pg #, etc, or that possibly the matter was corrected in later manuals, but try anyway. The worst screw-up I have come across was an incorrect torque value listing for something that would be a slam-dunk guaranteed stripped-bolt/damaged thread. Don't recall the actual item, but suffice to say these "bibles" cannot be taken as ABSOLUTE gospel.

One of the things I have learned about these Helms GM approved shop manuals is that despite their value, which is considerable, they are also chocked full of mistakes too and that anyone, HAS to think about what their doing vs. the "manuals" explanation. Most times, the manual is right but not always. The proof-reading SUX. Cost cutting and/or laziness is my guess.

Hell, I'm even seeing the EXACT SAME drawing numbers in the 2006 manual (that I also have) that show TWO slots in the driver's side fuel rail covers for the '97 to '98 fuel/return lines. Also a couple illustrations still using C5 components illustrations of the Evap Purge Solenoid. Gee, who'da thought that the 6.2L and the 7.0L still used the same C5 components of the same design? NOT!!
